William Moses Kunstler (July 7, 1919-September 4, 1995) was an American lawyer and civil rights activist who portrayed himself in the Law & Order season 5 episode "White Rabbit".
Kunstler was once referred to as "the country's most controversial and, perhaps, its best-known lawyer" by The New York Times. A polarizing figure, he became well-known for defending members of the Revolutionary Communist Party, Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, Attica Prison rioters, and American Indian Movement among others.
Kunstler appeared as himself in the 1994 film The Paper (featuring Jill Hennessy, Lynne Thigpen, and Roma Maffia). He also appeared as a lawyer in the 1991 film The Doors and as a judge in 1992's Malcolm X.
Kunstler's appearance on Law & Order was his final before his death on September 4, 1995 at the age of 76.
