Nora Hodges is a con artist who concocted a complex scheme to collect funds from toy mogul Billy Tripley while poisoning her granddaughter.

Her daughter was a party girl who got pregnant and was unaware of who the father was, forcing Nora to raise her granddaughter April.
Nora, diagnosed with Munchausen syndrome by proxy, coached her granddaughter April to say that she was raped by Billy Tripley and that she had cancer to make her look even more vulnerable, having induced the cancer in April beforehand.
Eventually, investigators found out that she lied about the allegations, that she had poisoned April and that she was after Billy's money. Nora confessed to the allegations; though was not charged with the related fraud, she was reprimanded by Novak because now Tripley could call fraud each time. Nora felt guilty and she was sent to prison for life for first-degree attempted murder and fraud. April was sent to foster care while devastated by her grandmother's actions. (SVU: "Sick")
