Dr. Manny Beltran was an emergency room doctor in New York City originally from Puerto Rico.
History[]
As a child, he was a member of a gang, often hanging out with Ray and Rodolfo Delgado. In 1993, he shot and killed Detective Joe Dutton, who was undercover, believing that he was reaching for a gun. He did not know until after Dutton was dead that he was only reaching for his NYPD shield. He was immediately sent back to San Juan by his cousin Alfred in order to escape the investigation into the murder. Due to the false testimony of Detectives Kevin Quinn and Alfred Minaya, Ray was convicted of the crime and sent to jail.
Wracked with guilt, Beltran studied to become a doctor and as such saved hundreds of lives. He was, however, eventually found to be the murderer and arrested by Dutton's widow, Detective Alexandra Eames, and her partner, Detective Robert Goren. (CI: "Amends")
