Indra is the God of Sky, and a Fifth Zen god. The primeval gods appointed him King of the Astikas.

Appearance[]

In the finite, he is described as a man with bluish-silver hair, whose eyes are covered by a dark blindfold.

Personality[]

Manasvin describes him (along with Kubera and Varuna) as a hypocrite who would resort to anything in order to kill a nastika, and then gloat about the triumph of justice.[1]

Skills and Abilities[]

His powers are available to humans as hoti indra (lightning attack) and bhavati indra (mass lightning attack) spells.

His known god-level items include a set of vajras (dagger- or club-like items symbolic of thunderbolts and diamonds). One came into Asha Rahiro's possession during the attack on Kalibloom; it specializes in hoti indra spells using silent magic.[2]

Plot[]

History[]

In the finite, he and Yama are doing their paperwork in Hell, complaining that Agni is of no help.

Season 3[]

Chapter 40: Twisted Bird[]

(9) A long time ago, after the annihilation of the Ancient human race, many Gods gather in Hell to ask Agni to give up on his betrothed. The Gods want to annihilate her soul to prevent future problems she may cause. The Gods first tried to make Yama cancel the betrothal but according to Indra, Yama refuses to do it without Agni's consent. Agni keeps refusing to cancel the betrothal and the Gods start getting desperate, one of them suggests that Agni should get betrothed to a better human. Agni gets angry at the Gods for this last recommendation.

Chapter 42: Crossroads[]

3-57 Agni asking for help to other Gods

Agni, Indra, Varuna, Chandra and Marut

(4) In a flashback to an even more distant time, Indra and other Gods listen to Agni's complaints about Gandharva murdering so many humans. Agni wants to stop Gandharva and seeks the help of the other Gods, but none of them agree with him. Indra shrugs it off by saying Gandharva is just having fun and stopping him would complicate their lives. When Agni shows concern about how the humans must feel, Indra says it hardly matters because a human life is short and having an early death makes no difference.

When Chandra brings up the subject of Agni's betrothed, Indra suggests that the good thing about Agni being so attached to her is that they can use this weakness against him. Indra is delighted by the idea of having a party in Hell should Agni kill them all for badmouthing his betrothed.

(5) Indra meets Yama in Hell. When he spots the Sword of Hellfire, Yama tells him that the sword was made by the primeval god Brahma and explains how the sword works. Indra finds it strange that Brahma gave Agni the sword when she claims to be neutral. Indra promptly decides to ask Brahma for a weapon as well, leaving Yama to do his work without help.

Chapter 45: Crime and Punishment[]

(2) A long time ago, after Gandharva started to annihilate souls, the Gods had a meeting to discuss how to handle the situation. The Gods could not agree on a course of action, some of the Gods asked for the human souls to get transported directly to the Underworld after death, while other Gods insisted that human souls must have a period of grace in the Human realm. Indra was among the second group.

Chapter 47: Words That Never Reached You[]

3-112 Kinnara and Gods

Indra, Kinnara, Marut, and Chandra

(13) In the early stages of the universe, many Gods aided Kinnara in her quest to take the name of Airavata, among them Indra, Marut and Chandra. The Gods are standing next to Kinnara when they see the creation Agni made with the ancient humans. They go fight the creation, excited by the idea that they will die here. As Indra leaves, he says is it would good if Agni's betrothed died there because then they could use it against Agni later.

3-116 Indra leading the Gods to curse Agni's betrothed soul

Indra leading the gods

(16) After the annihilation of the Ancient human race, many Gods gathered around the soul of Agni's betrothed, Indra stood in front of them all.

The Gods complained about not being able to annihilate the soul, and they feared the consequences the soul could bring about in the distant future. Indra suggested they could prevent any threat to them by putting all kinds of impediments on future reincarnations of the soul. The Gods supported the proposition and proceeded to curse the soul.
