Hurly is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Dream Land.

Physical Appearance[]

Hurly is an animate jack-in-the-box. Its head is a small black ball with a goofy face and a somewhat long tongue. It comes out of a green and orange striped box with a yellow question mark on it.

Games[]

Kirby's Dream Land[]

Hurly serves as the Extra Game equivalent of Chuckie, appearing in Castle Lololo. Like Chuckie, Hurly pops out of its box. Instead of bouncing around and returning to the box, however, it launches its head out repeatedly, with each head falling off the screen in a parabolic arc. It is faster than its counterpart. The falling heads can be a hazard for Kirby to navigate past.

Kirby's Pinball Land[]

Hurly appears in the top section of Kracko Land. When Mr. Shine is defeated, it appears in the place of Chuckie. It bounces in an arc around the stage, and turns into a Maxim Tomato if hit enough times.

Etymology[]

Both Chuckie and Hurly seem to have their names derived from words relating to the action of throwing or the gag reflex. Hurly's name could be derived from "hurl," which is a term meaning to throw something, as well as a slang word for vomiting. These can respectively relate to Hurly's method of attack (throwing itself out of its box) and its dizzying, erratic behavior in the game, as well as its sickly face.

Trivia[]

  • In the Extra Game credits of Kirby's Dream Land, Hurly's name is erroneously switched with Chuckie's. This was corrected in all subsequent appearances.
  • Hurly shares many attributes with Gooey from Kirby's Dream Land 3. They both have black/blue bodies, dizzy eyes, and a long tongue.
