Gummi ship missions in Final Mix are a new gameplay mechanic involving the gummi ship. Like other Final Mix additions they are similar to the missions in Kingdom Hearts II, which was still in early development at the time. The missions serve to enhance the original gummi ship gameplay in Kingdom Hearts, as there was no incentive nor need to go in-depth into it at the time. Technically the missions do not do so either, only adding additional completion criteria and challenges, and new gummi blocks copied from the sequel. The third mission reward is instead of a new block always a ship blueprint, most of which are entirely original. Completing all missions will reward the player with the Bahamut blueprint and Crown-G block.
Each world has three missions, which can only be attempted when traveling towards it. All missions have a difficulty level, and generally feature one of the three following requirements; collect a certain amount of points, collect a certain or specific amount of blocks, destroy a specific amount of enemy ships. The harder missions, usually the third ones, also often involve restrictions, such as; leave from a specific world, use a limited amount of blocks, use only one kind of weapon, do not use specific special blocks.
Complete a level 1, 2, and 3 gummi ship mission respectively grants you the bronze trophies and achievements "Test Pilot", "Veteran Pilot", and "Ace Pilot" in the 1.5 ReMIX version.
