Plot[]

Almost two years after the events of Fallen Kingdom, Maisie, Claire, and Owen have been traveling across the United States together in a van nicknamed "Pumpkin" with the goal of staying "off the grid" due to the many people looking for them. For multiple months, they have been following tips on where Blue might be. None have been successful, however.

Before arriving at Gibson Peak, the three stop at Mountain Peak Diner in town for milkshakes. Several police are stationed outside when they arrive due to a dinosaur sighting. Maisie recognizes Blue by her call causing her and Owen to run to the back of the diner where they find Blue rummaging through it. Maisie attempts to calm her down with a treat. Blue is distracted by it being thrown into the woods, allowing a safe exit for Maisie, Owen, and Sheriff Wragg.

After a discussion with Sheriff Wragg, the two return to the van to continue their drive to the campground. They settle down at Happy Trails Campground with a pre-payment for three weeks. The next morning, Owen heads off on a solo mission to track down Blue while Claire and Maisie go to the lake to swim. At the lake, Maisie meets four other kids staying at the camp ground: Violet, Hannah, Zak, and Bryn. While talking, Maisie grows suspicious that they're hiding something; Particularly Violet.

Sometime later, Owen takes Maisie along with him to track Blue. After Maisie nearly slips off a cliff, they return back to camp where Claire is waiting. Maisie returns to the lake where she spots Violet carrying a bucket of apples into the woods. Maisie decides to follow her. In the woods, she follows Violet to a grove where two young trikes are waking up. There, she finds the four kids feeding the dinosaurs. Maisie uses tricks from the park that Owen taught her to calm the trikes down, impressing the kids. However, they are all weary due to her being new to the campground. While encouraging Maisie not to tell any of the adults about them, Zak reveals that some adults have been discussing calling poachers to hunt down Blue. Violet mentions a plan to move the sister trikes to a nearby national forest, and asks Maisie to help. Maisie leaves without giving a clear answer.

Later, Owen continues his hunt for Blue near the local farmland. He locates her in one of the barns. Upon entering, he finds Blue who has been startled by her first interaction with a cat. Startled, Blue flees. The owner of the barn, Rand Norland, upon hearing the commotion, enters and talks to Owen about his distaste for the loose dinosaurs. Owen offers to help repair the damage in hopes of getting information about any potential poachers. Later that day, Owen recounts this to Maisie and Claire at Mountain Peak Diner. At the diner, they meet Rand Norland again alongside Billie and her brother Todd. They subtly try to recruit Owen to poach Blue, to which he firmly refuses. The three are disappointed by this, and make it clear they intend to hire someone else to do the job.

The next day, Owen and Claire plan to meet with the sheriff. Maisie is invited to see the trikes again by Violet in the meantime. Using fruit, the kids try to teach the dinosaurs where the nearby stream is. While doing this, they spot an old treehouse. Upon reaching the water, the kids proceed to swim and play with the dinosaurs for some time. Thanks to their success in leading the trikes to water, Violet believes that they'll be able to herd the pair to Fender's Rock soon.

When Maisie returns to camp, Claire and Owen are still talking to Sheriff Wragg. Maisie eavesdrops on their conversation about poachers potentially being hired. The sheriff invites Owen and Claire to speak with the rest of the community the next day before leaving. The next morning, a storm begins rolling in. Claire and Owen leave to speak with the ranchers while Maisie leaves to see Violet. While talking on their way to see the dinosaurs, they hear what sounds like a large stun gun buzzing. They overhear two poachers talking about hunting Blue and potentially the two trikes.

They return to the watering hole where they left the trikes in hope of finding them and their friends, however, there is no sight of them. They eventually find them hiding out in a hidden cave. Hannah reveals that they also know about the poachers and have been hiding from them. Meanwhile, Claire and Owen are having little luck convincing the ranchers to leave Blue alone. Billie slips up and reveals a poacher has already been called to deal with Blue. Twenty-six vote in favor of getting rid of her while two vote against. While starting to leave, they're informed that the storm has flooded the bridge used to travel between the campground and the farmland. Using a radio, they attempt to communicate with Maisie. Maisie is able to inform them about Tri and Pi, but is cut off before she can say anything else.

Back at Violet's grandparents home, Violet and Maisie begin to create a plan to stop the poachers and protect the dinosaurs. They decide they're going to distract the poachers by making them chase them instead of the trikes as well as attempting to make booby traps. Maisie leaves a note for Owen and Claire, and the five kids leave for the woods. The children decide on a series of traps and misdirections along the way. Maisie returns to the old treehouse they found and prepares it with traps. After the rain has stopped, Maisie hears the poachers approaching earlier than expected. She climbs up the treehouse again to watch them. Maisie uses several of the prepared items, but this eventually alerts the poachers to her position in the treehouse. She pulls up the ladder before they can reach it.

Using a climbing axe, a poacher attempts to climb the tree manually in an attempt to catch her. Maisie ties rope from the ladder together to create a rope long enough to swing from, allowing her to escape. She steals the poachers supplies and heavily soaks it in water to render it useless. Maisie hears someone use the emergency signal, and she rushes to one of their established attack points. There, she finds Violet in the grip of the other poacher. Suddenly, Blue pops out of the bushes and begins snapping at the poacher due to sensing his weapons. She scares him off, sending him running straight into a net Violet prepared earlier. Blue turns her attention to the two kids, to which Maisie jumps in front of Violet and attempts to calm her using a bandana with Owen's scent on it. It works, and Maisie is able to get close enough to attach a tracker to Blue.

Blue is startled away by sudden light from Owen. Claire, and the sheriff team's search party. When the sheriff steps away to make a call, the poacher reveals that he knows who Owen and Claire really are. He alludes to people hunting Maisie due to her nature as a clone. Owen gives him, and whoever his boss is, a warning to back-off hunting his daughter or else he'll send Blue after them. The sheriff, unaware of this conversation, takes him away before he can say anymore. Completely alone, the family have a talk with each other where Maisie apologizes for lying and hiding things, and Claire and Owen accept the apology with a promise to help her with whatever she might need.

A week later, the trikes have been successfully relocated to Fender's Rock with the combined efforts of the kids, Claire, Owen, and Sheriff Wragg. The three are getting ready to leave, so Maisie is saying her goodbyes to the other kids. Although she does not have a phone, Maisie offers to keep in touch via email with Violet. The three return to the van where they begin their journey out of Gibson Peak. They decide their next stop will be to visit a herd of stegosauruses causing issues in Chico, California since Blue is also heading that way.
