“ | Naught remains. Alone. Utterly alone. Cast out. Unloved. Outside the grace of gods. The Archon's Roost, they call this shrine of death. Yet nowhere do I spy our Lord of Dark. His throne sits empty, wanting for an heir... Did I not do all that was asked? Did I not serve and seek my just reward? And for my deeds, they damn me. Name me demon. And who am I to deny it? Demon, then! Renouncing former ties and titles! And in their place, I claim... The Lord of Dark. Odio! | „ |

“ | Indeed. Within your words lies simple truth. You fought and won and claimed your promised prize. And not for noble cause, but selfish want. A craving deep and primal, spurring you... The shield desire and disdain all else. Let those apart and those opposed be damned. The ones who called this kingdom home. Your kin in spirit-this I see. You are the same. Reflect on your regrets... and bid farewell... to misspent life of sin-you'll live no more! | „ |

Oersted, better known as Odio, is the main antagonist of Live A Live for the SNES and its remake for the Nintendo Switch.
Once a knight who protected the kingdom of Lucrece, he eventually went through multiple tragedies that made him into a misanthropic dark lord. He started to believe humanity was selfish, and as a result would attempt to destroy every life across all of time to make them pay for how selfish they are. Part of it was creating multiple incarnations of his hatred to cause damage throughout multiple different time periods, making him the overarching antagonist of the first seven chapters.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He ends up killing everyone in the kingdom of Lucrece, leaving no survivors.
- He created incarnations of his hatred and influenced their actions to cause trouble throughout multiple time periods, majority of whom were personally responsible for other heroes' struggles and suffering:
- His Odo incarnation in the Prehistoric era was responsible for the Kuu tribe sacrificing people to it, including Pogo's love interest Beru.
- His Ou Di Wan Lee incarnation in the Imperial China ran the Indomitable Fist kung fu school that promoted violence and rejected compassion and trust, with his disciples terrorizing the population of China and even killing two of Earthen Heart Shifu's disciples. Though he was defeated, it also came at cost of the shifu's life as well due to Wan Lee weakening him and then sending two assassins who tired him out to death.
- His Ode Iou incarnation in the Japan of the Twilight of Edo era kidnapped Ryoma Sakamoto and tried to take over Japan and plunge it into the new era of war.
- His O. Dio incarnation in the Wild West era was raiding many towns with his Crazy Bunch, frequently terrorizing Success, which made them live in fear of being slaughtered should they so much as to look at him wrong.
- His Odie O'Bright incarnation in the Present Day era murdered the six champions of the world as a way to claim the title of 'The Strongest' before trying to murder Masaru as well.
- His Odeo incarnation in the Near Future was the foundation of the new religion that promoted human sacrifices, with the government's conspirators kidnapping, liquefacting and sacrificing 2000 humans to let Odeo be reborn with their hatred.
- His OD-10 incarnation in the Distant Future systematically slaughtered all but three members of the Cogito Ergo Sum transport freighter when it was set on the course to Earth to deliver its cargo.
- If you play as him in the final chapter, he alters history to make sure the incarnations of Odio's hatred win against the protagonists, and can even be brought to use Armageddon, an attack which will instantly destroy time.
- If playing as any of the other characters, he eventually gets the idea to destroy all of time due to seeing humanity as evil.
- Upon being defeated, he tries one last time to defeat the protagonists by getting the incarnations of Odio's hatred to attack them.
- In the remake, should it fail, he'll become so furious he'll call upon all of the hatred in the world to become the incarnation of hatred itself: Sin of Odio.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is an incredibly tragic character with multiple tragedies happening at once due to the betrayal of his own best friend Streibough. First, Streibough tricks him into killing the king, causing everyone aside from one kid and Uranus to hate him and exile him. As that all happens, Uranus ends up eventually dying to sacrifice himself for Oersted, and he eventually gets confronted by Streibough about how he ruined him. After defeating him, the love of his life Princess Alethea ends up getting mad at him for killing Streibough, committing suicide and effectively getting rid of the one person who Oersted thought supported him, which meant absolutely everyone hated him. All of this completely broke his mind and warped his mindset, making him think all of humanity is evil and must be destroyed. While some characters do refuse to sympathize with him, others feel bad for him and relate to his struggles.
- Though he was hurt by her rejection of him, deep inside he still loved Princess Alethea, as in the ending where the heroes choose to kill Oersted, he weakly mutters her name as his last words before passing away.
- The remake's ending for Oersted in the final chapter shows that he is genuinely insecure, as, after succeeding in killing heroes, he was reduced to begging for someone to believe in him and acknowledge him as a hero, even though he was completely alone.
- He eventually redeems himself if you defeat the incarnations of his hatred in the final chapter, as he asks what the protagonists had that he doesn't, accepts it, sends them back to their time periods, and dies peacefully.
- In the remake, his redemption is much more nuanced, as when the heroes fight him in his Sin of Odio form, he remembers his humanity, breaks free from his self-imposed prison of hatred, and finishes off the demonic manifestation of his sin, saving the heroes. Afterwards, he displays genuine regret for all of his crimes, and, just like in the regular ending, sends the heroes back to their time periods and dies in peace.
