Mad Doctor, also known as Dr. XXX, is the main antagonist of the 1933 cartoon “The Mad Doctor”, and the secondary antagonist of the Epic Mickey Series.

He was voiced by the late Billy Bletcher in the original 1933 cartoon, and Dave Wittenberg and Jim Meskimen in the Epic Mickey games.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Make Him Heinous?[]

"The Mad Doctor"[]

  • In the short he originated from The Mad Doctor, in Mickey's nightmare, he kidnapped Pluto and a chicken to cut off their heads and put the former's on the latter's body to see if the result will bark, cluck, or cackle. He even attempted to kill Mickey by experimenting on him by sawing him in half with a giant rusty chainsaw to the stomach when the mouse arrived to save his dog from forced surgery. (This alone was what made the doctor quite infamously in terms of being one of the darkest Mickey Mouse villains in history).
  • He also gave Mickey and Pluto tons of trauma and unease as a result of Mickey being tormented in his castle and Pluto wailing in horror, especially when Mickey was forced into saving Pluto by dealing with the doctor's horrific skeleton minions, shadow minions and the castle itself being something of a hellish maze for Mickey to survive in.

Epic Mickey[]

  • He betrayed Oswald when the Blot Wars began, siding with the Shadow Blot and offering it a chance to become a cartoon star in its own right in exchange for helping him take over Wasteland. He also programmed and made more Beetleworx to turn on the Toons and capture many of the Gremlins as well as aid the blot.
  • At some point he had animatronic Goofy, Daisy and Donald be taken apart by beetleworx, which is arguably mutilation.
  • He broke the Moonliner Rocket, taking one of the three parts for himself, and presumably giving one of the parts to Animatronic Hook.
  • When Mickey fell into Wasteland and landed into the Mad Doctor's lab in Dark Beauty Castle, the latter attempted to steal the former's heart via his Mechanical Arm to gain entry into the Cartoon World.
  • Created the pirate conversion machine which was used by animatronic hook to turn pirates into beetleworx. This resulted in Tortooga becoming extremely dangerous leading to most pirates being displaced to Ventureland.
  • He had Animatronic Hook decommissioned from fighting with Pete Pan.
  • He produced more Beetleworx in his secret lair in the Lonesome Manor's attic, intending to continue his quest to conquer Wasteland, destroy the Toons, and reign supreme as its "Mechanical King."
  • He attempted to kill Mickey and Gus once more when they reached this lair, producing Beetleworx and siccing them on the duo to stop them from getting his rocket part.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two[]

  • He built Guardian Siphons to suck up all the Guardians and their Pools so he could become a Toon again, inadvertently causing the earthquakes that damaged Wasteland and split Mean Street in two which resulted in the displacement of many toons as well as mass property damage.
  • He fooled most of the Toons (except Gus and Ortensia) upon his return into thinking he had reformed, earning him the respect of many, so he could escape Wasteland.
  • He tricked Prescott into turning on his friends, preying on his jealousy and having him build a TV to broadcast the Mad Doctor's show to the Cartoon World.
  • He took drastic measures to keep his plan secret, including hiring Pete Pan to keep people out, brainwashing Prescott to the point of his mind being broken as a way to silence him, and capturing Jamface in the Lonesome Manor's attic.
  • He captured Ortensia, Clarabelle, and Horace and others on his ride at Mean Street; threatening to turn them, Mickey, Gus, and Oswald inert and destroy Wasteland if Mickey didn't give him his brush.
  • After Mickey and Oswald befriended/defeated his claw, he attempted to defeat them once more to prevent them from freeing the Guardians.
  • Even though he has an excuse that he was forgotten and had to be turn into animatronic, this tragedy is outweighed by his evil acts.
  • In the Non Canon Thinner ending, Mickey frees Oswald from the Mad Doctor's clutches when he tried to save him and they are blasted back to the surface of Mean Street as he falls into the thinner below.
  • While he does provide a few humorous and comedic moments throughout the game such as his eccentric and overdramatic personality traits, as well as his acts of speaking by mostly singing it in (almost) every sentence, being portrayed somewhat comically (e.g the scene where he said he's no longer really mad; which got Mickey questioning Oswald of the doctor to of which Oswald silently denied, the scene where he encourages Oswald to sing out the question "Are you okay?"; which the doctor silently yet happily appalauded in response and quickly giggling for the fact he got someone to build him a TV during his diary song), his actions are still taken seriously in the narrative, these moments were rather brief and they don't detract him from his villainy whatsoever.

What Make Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He seemed to have some standards in Epic Mickey: The Power of Two (even during his villainy), such as when he had to cast out the Blotworx because of their unpredictable nature and was shocked that the earthquakes nearly sucked the guardians.
  • He redeemed himself by the Paint Mickey splashes on his face after he and Oswald defeat the former in battle. The Mad Doctor saves Mickey and Oswald from falling into the Thinner after this, and asks them why they saved him even after everything they did. Once they explain that "that's what heroes do," he has a change of heart and decides to reform, with the Tints restoring his Toon appearance. He even accompanies them in the parade at the end, waving at the audience with them.
  • Him initally unable to become an toon in the beginning since he himself was turned into a robot in order to control the Blot and was falling apart, was played for sympathy.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Epic Mickey Villain to be IH.
  • Originally in Epic Mickey 2, the Mad Doctor would revive the Blot who would steal Mickey's heart again and then merge with the Mad Doctor, Oswald and Mickey would be forced to overload Mickey's heart with Thinner to destroy both the Blot and the Mad Doctor once and for all, this was replaced with the Mad Doctor wishing to escape Wasteland instead of wishing to revive the False Shadow Blot, had this been kept in the final version he would qualify as Near Pure Evil due to being loyalty to the Blot.
  • In earlier versions of Epic Mickey, Concept art also shows that Oswald originally attempted to extract Mickey's heart rather than the Mad Doctor, Oswald would been IH instead of the Mad Doctor as would be VB.
