“ That is what forgiveness sounds like. Screaming and then silence. „
~ Carl's most famous quote; also a possible foreshadowing of his death.
“ I do not kill people. That is my least favorite thing to do. „
~ Carl's second-most famous quote.

Carl is the villainous protagonist of Llamas with Hats, as well as the best friend of the other protagonist, Paul.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He is arrested for an undisclosed crime, but he chews his way out of prison.
  • He mistook a plumber for a pervert and made a citzen's arrest before biting his hands off.
  • He cut a man in half with a hula hoop.
  • He made a hula hoop out of human skin and bones and forced another person to eat it.
  • He stuffed several orphans into a hula hoop and rolled them down a hill into a lake on Christmas morning.
  • When a man enters his house to install his MSN television (as revealed in a secret recording), he impales the man 37 times and amputates his corpse, eating his hands. He also considers this entirely justified.
  • He fires a harpoon directly into the face of a cruise ship's captain and proceeds to head-butt children into the water to drown. He proceeds to bite holes in all of the lifeboats causing everyone on the ship to die. Then he sinks the water vessel, killing dozens. He stands proudly in the blood of an elderly couple and lies to Paul that they are standing in God's tears.
  • He topples a government presiding over South America and pushes its leader into an enormous fan to be shredded up. He also eats the hotel bartender's entire body.
  • In the mix, he fills his suitcase with the meat of deceased orphans, as he anticipates making a meat dragon.
  • He gaslights Paul for correctly citing he is a horrible person to go on vacation with. When he says he is unsurprised at Carl preparing to make an art project from mass filicide, he takes it as a challenge to ramp up his heinousness further still, much to Paul's horror. Then he makes an extremely misogynistic joke about Paul's hat.
  • He causes mass destruction on a city and slices off the faces of innocent civilians, attaching the peeled flesh to balloons before awaiting Paul to come home to a "birthday surprise". While he waits, he leaves footprints all over the floor Paul has just cleaned and then lies about it. Then he blasts apart the wall to their house.
  • He creates a crack in the pendulum of time and space, from which to collect millions of amputated hands from infants. He ensures he only commits mass infanticide (presuming one-year-olds can't live without their limbs) against white babies.
  • He abuses his power as the President of the Home Owners' Association by subjecting Mrs. Bigsby to capital punishment and burying her alive just because she wasn't pulling her weight by keeping up with the weeding.
  • Upon completing his Meat Dragon, he makes an "Orphan Stomper" (a meat grinder equipped with a conveyor belt full of the remains of the dead), sadistically referring to himself as "the Henry Ford of Human Meat".
  • He gaslights Paul again by calling his attitude disgusting.
  • His actions traumatize Paul until he moves out.
  • He murders all other members of the city council and flays their faces, sculpting a hand chair out of them.
  • He spends all his money on pet swans and then burns down his house once there's enough swans inside.
  • He harasses Paul at his new apartment by sending him a bleeding and screaming "piano" he considers a physical manifestation of his mysterious problem with them.
  • He kills an unknown individual and cuts them up.
  • He creates a "Gore Pit" full of corpses which he eventually falls into.
  • His psychotic illusions lead to a chain of events that results in the Carl wiping out all life on Earth including Paul. During his rampage, he creates a blood vortex at the top of the Eiffel Tower, an orb that shocks people and eats their skin, and numerous more meat creatures.
  • Following his death he kills a tube in a brain multiple times.
  • He crushed a sentient acorn when it called him out on his psychopathy.
  • His interactions with Paul all present him as a severely pathological liar.
  • Despite being able to plead insane, his actions of destroying the entire world and being an enormous source of trauma in Paul's life renders him an ideal IH.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Llamas With Hats is a series played mainly for laughs and extremely dark comedy.
  • There is absolutely no doubt that he is genuinely insane, as he did believe that Paul was on his side and approved of his actions, and talked with a hallucination of Paul in the final few episodes, giving him moral agency issues.
  • With that being said, he genuinely cares for Paul (in his own twisted way, of course), and it is his demise that drives him to the edge. He is wracked with incredible remorse for being alone on a desolated planet made according to his own heinous deeds, prompting him to commit suicide as he cannot live with his actions.
  • His death is played for sympathy as he loses his mind and becomes racked with guilt over Paul's death (and potentially all the people he's killed) and breaks down in tears before committing suicide.
  • While the epilogue makes it clear that there is no hope for Carl to redeem himself, he eventually comes to realize this himself, opting to reincarnate as a tree to ensure that he can't hurt anybody anymore, giving Carl the closest thing he can get to redeeming himself.
