James Prinsep FRS (20 Agustus 1799 – 22 April 1840) adalah seorang cendekiawan, orientalis dan peneliti zaman kuno Inggris. Iaa dalah penyunting pendiri Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal dan dikenal karena meneliti aksara-aksara Kharosthi dan Brahmi dari India kuno. Ia mempelajari, mendokumentasi dan mengilustrasikan banyak aspek numismatik, metalurgi, meteorologi selaim menjalani karirnya di India sebagai kepala pertambangan di Benares.[1]
