Synopsis for "Traitor to the Cause"

45 minutes from now, Phoenix records a video distress call, but Onslaught interrupts and seemingly kills her. Now, the X-Men answer Professor X’s summons and gather in his study. Disillusioned by recent events, Xavier renounces his dream of mutant integration and declares his intent to control humanity. Phoenix tries to probe Xavier’s mind until she spots the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak on his desk with the Juggernaut trapped inside. Possessing Xavier, Onslaught psionically muzzles her, transforms into his armored form, and reveals he is Xavier’s repressed rage given form. He invites the X-Men to follow him and, to demonstrate his power, briefly takes telepathic control of Wolverine, Iceman, and Storm. Cyclops blasts Onslaught into a wall, and the X-Men resolve to fight against him. Onslaught telepathically freezes them and leaves, but Gambit breaks his hold on the team by charging the floor with energy until it explodes. After Phoenix recounts her previous battle with Onslaught, Cyclops splits the team into two squads to secure their records on mutants.

At Four Freedoms Plaza in Manhattan, Onslaught appears to young Franklin Richards as an imaginary friend and tries to manipulate him, but Franklin just keeps asking if Onslaught wants milk. Frustrated, Onslaught shatters Franklin’s milk glass, and Franklin leaves the room with his father. At the Xavier Institute, Storm’s squad of X-Men blasts into Xavier’s ready room and reviews his files until Cannonball attacks Wolverine. Realizing Onslaught is controlling him, Bishop blasts him, breaking Onslaught’s hold. Onslaught appears, and Wolverine notes his armor resembles Magneto’s costume. Enraged, Onslaught insists he is Xavier and blows up the room. At Avengers Mansion, X-Man tries to convince the Avengers that Professor X is a threat, and Thor suggests they visit the Institute to investigate. Meanwhile, Onslaught gloats to an unconscious Bishop that he formed his plans using Bishop’s visions of the Age of Apocalypse as a guide.

Cyclops’s squad downloads the mutant detector Cerebro’s files until Onslaught takes control of Cyclops and uses him to blast everyone but Beast unconscious. Beast grovels before Onslaught, and Onslaught reveals he has known all along Beast was really Dark Beast in disguise. Onslaught tries to extract information from Phoenix, but she resists with her powers. While Dark Beast argues with Onslaught over using the X-Men as test subjects, Phoenix flees to the psi-shielded bunker beneath the Institute and records the distress call. Onslaught follows, but before he can kill her, Cyclops blasts him, and the other X-Men attack en masse. Onslaught creates an illusion of his dead form and moves to blast the X-Men from behind, but Bishop spots him and absorbs the blast. Impressed, Onslaught teleports away with Dark Beast. The X-Men regroup, review what they know about Onslaught, and realize they may have to kill Xavier to stop him. In a massive Sentinel storage facility, two technicians fail to notice as the Sentinels come online.
