Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. Born in Illinois and later becoming a lawyer, he would go on to one of the most successful and controversial Presidencies in United States' history. Beginning his term in 1861, he succeeded James Buchanan and was followed by Andrew Johnson. His Presidency is mostly notable for its involvement in the American Civil War, which eventually led to the emancipation proclamation. In 1865 he was assassinated by the actor John Wilkes Booth who died shortly afterward in a nation-wide manhunt. Abraham Lincoln was adapted from the historical figure for the DC Universe by Jerry Siegel and John Sikela, first appearing in Superman #48. (1947) |
