Torvald

Torvald is a fictional character in the Hey Arnold! TV Series.

Appearance[]

He has a physical resemblance to Harold although he is about 6 ft tall and has a similar wardrobe to Arnold. He wears a blue scarf on his head, a large shirt cut off the sleeves, a red vest, light blue pants, and large black boots.

He has an unibrow, just like Helga and Harold

Personality[]

He is very aggressive, and quite messy as can be seen by his bedroom; Though he is a bully, he does seem to be a good guy underneath it all. Unlike Ludwig, who for example always seems to be mean-spirited and is a petty criminal, Torvald's aggressive nature seems to come from his own insecurities and the fact that he does not seem to have a father figure. Unlike a lot of his friends, who he claimed were in juvenile hall in Tutoring Torvald, he seems to have avoided any significant run-ins with the police and has thus stayed out of jail. After his debut episode, he seems to have become borderline friends with his fellow fourth graders, even playing on their football team against the fifth graders in Mud Bowl.

History[]

Torvald is thirteen years old and the oldest student of P.S. 118's fourth grade class. Because Harold is also thirteen, it can be assumed that Torvald is older by only a few months. He is good at being a fourth grader and has been doing it for the past three or four years (it beats joining his friends in Juvenile Hall). He is also one of the most feared students in the school, being a part-time bully and problem child, even Wolfgang seems somewhat wary of him. While not shown very often in the series, he is revealed to have a good heart; he cherishes his mother dearly, and would never want to do anything to hurt her, even reputation wise and emotionally (Big Gino). Due to his absence later on in the series, it is likely that Torvald was able to improve his grades and eventually pass the fourth grade.

Miss Slovak assigned Arnold his "study buddy" in the episode Tutoring Torvald. Although he is shown to be bad at remedial math, Torvald is able to exhibit his intelligence while taking loans from his victims (he actually thought it was just "business" the whole time). In Mudbowl, he's on Arnold's football team as a secret weapon where he is able to effortlessly shove past the fifth graders; however, he sprains his ankle during a running play and is out for the remainder of the game, cheering on the sidelines.

• He only has two major speaking roles while he only makes three other non-speaking cameos.
• Although he's in a class photo he is never seen interacting with Mr. Simmons onscreen.
• Tutoring Torvald is the only episode to have Torvald's name in the title.
