“ | I am Jet. And these are my Freedom Fighters. | „ |
~ Jet introducing himself. |
“ | Now, the Fire Nation thinks they don't have to worry about a couple of kids hiding in the trees. Maybe they're right. Or maybe... they're dead wrong. | „ |
~ Jet's speech to the Freedom Fighters. |
“ | Maybe you've forgotten why we need to start over. Maybe you've forgotten about how the Fire Nation left us all homeless. How they wiped out all the people we loved. If you don't want to help me, I'll get the evidence on my own. | „ |
~ Jet after he failed to convinced Smellerbee and Longshot to help him expose Zuko and Iroh. |
Jet is a supporting anti-heroic character in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. He was the teenage leader of a group of refugee Earth Kingdom children who called themselves the Freedom Fighters.
He is voiced by Crawford Wilson.
His Heroic Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- While he used to be a villain who wanted to get many innocents, even children, killed with a flood, his descent is understandable as he witnessed his parents being slaughtered at the hands of the Fire Nation when he was only a boy.
- His main motive is to save the valley from the Fire Nation and end their tyranny as well.
- In his debut episode, he rescued Aang, Katara and Sokka from Fire Nation soldiers simply because he saw that they were under attack and needed help.
- When Katara told him about her mother's death, he immediately showed her sympathy for her loss.
- He allowed Aang, Katara and Sokka to stay with him and his gang for the night and even after they found out about his true colors, he doesn't try to kill them.
- He has a reputation for helping out fellow Earth Kingdom orphans, as seen in the Freedom Fighters. He is also a good boss and leader to them and consistently treats them well.
- Out of remorse, he and the Freedom Fighters moved to Ba Sing Se to start anew.
- He and Zuko snuck into the kitchen on the ship to Ba Sing Se to give the passengers better food.
- He tried to invite Zuko to be part of his team because he respected him for helping him give the ship passengers food,
- He atoned for his crimes and helped the gang find Appa and defeat the Dai Li, letting Long Feng kill him out of nobleness.
- He apologized to Aang for attacking him right after he snapped out of his brainwashing.
- As he was dying, he attempted to comfort the clearly distraught Katara by telling her that he would be fine, even though Toph, Smellerbee and Longshot knew this was unfortunately not the case.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He doesn't do anything heroic on a large scale, and his mind was erased for half the time he did his heroic deeds, preventing him from being admirable enough.
- While comparing him to characters like Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko or Princess Yue wouldn't be fair as they all have more resources than him with Team Avatar being benders with much more screentime and Yue having a piece of the Moon Spirit Tui within her, he fails the standards in comparison to Suki who played a major role in shaping Sokka into a better person and also partook in Ozai's defeat with similar resources and screentime.
- He spends most of his screentime as a villain who passes the heinous standard of the franchise by trying to destroy a village even with a lack of resources, making him qualify as Inconsistently Heinous as a result. Although he did redeem himself, it was too late into the story.
- He is incredibly anti-heroic as one of his motives is to ensure his gang's survival rather than keeping everyone else safe and he wanted to not only expose Zuko and Iroh as Firebenders, but also get them arrested despite them not showing any signs of being true threats.
- He is normally very rude and disrespectful.
- He has moments of lethality such as trying to beat up a random old man and attacking Zuko and Iroh out of spite.
- He can be an arrogant at times, such as when he claimed that the Fire Nation feared him and his Freedom Fighters, even though their attacks against the Fire Nation were relatively small in scale.
