~ Ice Climbers

The Ice Climbers, individualized as Popo (the twin boy in blue) and Nana (the twin girl in pink), are the titular main protagonists of Nintendo's video game series of the same name. The Ice Climbers also make their representative appearances as fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series.

True to their dual name, the duo are a twin pioneer mountaineer duo consisting of the leading elder twin boy with a blue inuit parka, Popo, and a companion younger twin girl with a pink inuit parka, Nana, who have scaled numerous glacial and enormous mountains and reach the summit to collect and reclaim their stolen vegetables from a condor, who had an obsession with stealing various kinds of vegetables, including eggplants, carrots, cucumbers, turnips and more, while also watching out for various obstacles, such as falling icicles and strong gusts of wind, and opposing species who roam around the mountains, such as Polar Bears, Topis and Nitpickers.

Sanae Kobayashi collectively voices both Popo and Nana, who also voices Kaede in Elfen Lied, Allen Walker from D.Gray-man, Reiko Natsume from Natsume's Book of Friends and Alexis Rhodes from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.

Good Rankings[]

Heroic Deeds[]

  • The Ice Climbers have a blood bond to each other, which is a long-standing custom practiced around the world that involves a pair of distinct people swearing loyalty to one another. Thus, Popo and Nana have pristine loyalty and dedication to each other, promising each other to never leave each other behind, and have been relentlessly reliant on each other for paramount and superb teamwork.
    • Not only that, but they also proceed to team up with other heroes as well, such as Lucas, Marth, Ike, Pokémon Trainer, Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, Pit and Link to fend off an onslaught of the Subspace Army after falling down to the canyon in the Subspace Emissary. This means that while the duo work as an excellent and heroic team themselves, they also seek to team up with other heroes (especially those who seek to save the world from danger), a sentiment that stands out among other partners in justice.
      • This is demonstrated in the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Popo climbs the Icicle Mountain and stands on an unstable platform of ice, which dissolves, but Nana arrives to grab his hand to save him in a nick of time just before he starts falling towards the bottom of the entire mountain, which further encourages the concept of their blood blond and pristine teamwork.[2]
      • This is also demonstrated in another scene of the opening movie in the same game, where Popo and Nana high-five each other with a small heart emerging from where their hands meet.[3]
        • While their reliance on each other for teamwork can benefit their enemies to separate the Ice Climbers rather effortlessly, one of them will have the capability to immediately return to the other climber and defend them from their enemies, saving them from their doom, further reflecting their blood bond.
  • In their illustrious timeline in Ice Climber, Popo and Nana have braved themselves together to scale countless amount of giant, glacial, very digressive and often narrow mountains, including the Infinite Glacier, filled with several Topis, Nitpickers and Polar Bears to regain stolen vegetables and confront the vegetable-stealing condor without fear of the mountains posing as a risk to them should either Popo and Nana fall down to the bottom, which means the duo demonstrate heroism.
  • The Ice Climbers' heroism shows that not only Popo and Nana are heavily desired and thrilled in scaling mountains, but are also entertained with challenging other people in such topic, even disregarding the potential danger the duo will drag themselves into, demonstrated when the Ice Climbers challenged Meta Knight into scaling the Glacial Peak.
    • Despite this, that does not mean the Ice Climbers demonstrate arrogance, as the Ice Climbers were scaling the Glacial Peak to access the Battleship Halberd (battling against the Great Fox), not out of tyranny, while effortlessly fending off a considerable portion of the Subspace Army, as well as from the canyon.
  • The Ice Climbers are shown to be very sympathetic and harmonizing, as despite themselves being fighters, the duo are not entertained in watching rivalry, clashing between arch-enemies and heroes fighting against each other, demonstrated when the Ice Climbers spectate the fight between Lucario and Meta Knight in fear when accessing the top of the Glacial Peak the Subspace Emissary. Shortly after the fight, Lucario and Meta Knight reconciliate with each other, which delights the Ice Climbers now that they are teaming up with each other instead of continuing to be rivals, which means that the Ice Climbers not only have pleasure in rivals redeeming each other, but also means that the duo desire redeeming with enemies/villains themselves to encourage teaming up with them as well. This genuinely makes the Ice Climbers harmonizing pacifists, despite being fighters themselves.
  • The Ice Climbers do not show grudge against Meta Knight and Lucario for boarding the Battleship Halberd and leaving the duo to fall down to the canyon after the Halberd crashed the Great Fox into the summit of the Glacial Peak.
  • The Ice Climbers have saved the world from Tabuu in the Subspace Emissary, as well as from Galeem and Dharkon in the World of Light.

Reasons for the Lack of Stand-Outs[]

  • The Ice Climbers' heroism only revolves around their teamwork and standard supportive heroism and audacity, while the duo's performances of truly admirable heroic deeds are very rare, causing them to fail the standards of the Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. franchises.
    • The duo have only demonstrated audacity by scaling several glacial mountains to collect robbed vegetables from the condor while dealing with a horde of Topis, Nitpickers and Polar Bears, and scaling the Glacial Peak to access the Battleship Halberd (battling against the Great Fox), not out of evil or antagonistic control, while effortlessly fending off a considerable portion of the Subspace Army, as well as from the canyon. However, Meta Knight and Lucario manage to board the Battleship Halberd after it crashes the Great Fox into the summit of the Glacial Peak, while the Ice Climbers fall down to the canyon from the impact. Additionally, while the duo have effortlessly fended off a considerable portion of the Subspace Army in the canyon, other fighters have done so to the same extent.
      • The latter point also applies to the duo defeating both Galeem and Dharkon.
      • Along with this, the Ice Climbers also heavily fail the admirable standards to numerous characters in the Super Smash Bros. adventure modes: such examples include King Dedede, who attached Dedede Brooches on Ness and Luigi to be resurrected in recovery from Tabuu's infamous off waves, Sonic, who shattered Tabuu's wings, and Kirby, who survived Galeem's mass genocide and resurrected numerous fighters in World of Light, among others.
