Tokarev is a major character in the video game Metro Exodus. He is the Spartan Rangers' weapons expert, who later defects to Sviatoslav Konstantinovich Mel'nikov's crew, known as the Aurora Crew, after Artyom Alekseyevich Chyornyj and Anna Miller uncovered Hanza's treachery, causing them to be on exile along with the rest of Miller's crew. Joining as the crew's weapons expert, Tokarev is in charge of the crew's weaponry.

Tokarev, a Spartan Ranger, was one of the few brave soldiers that followed Artyom, Anna, Miller, Stepan, Duke, Alyosha, and others on the trip eastwards over the Russian tundra following the Battle for D6.
Tokarev, a technological specialist, is known throughout the Order as the guy who invented many of the faction's weapons and modifications. He spends much of his time onboard the Aurora's workshop, working on equipment and weaponry for his brothers, completely enamoured with his profession and duty.
When he's not designing new kits, Tokarev likes to tell stories about weapons. Tokarev tells Artyom a narrative from his past on the level Autumn, which most likely explains the origins of his name (which turns out to be just a nickname). He used to possess a Tokarev handgun, which he described as "fantastic in all regards, but only had eight rounds in the magazine" (this information strongly suggests the pistol was Tokarev TT-33, the most famous weapon invented by Fedor Tokarev).
He was once involved in a gunfight with several bandits, which he nearly won, but he ran out of ammo due to his pistol's small magazine, was shot, and nearly died. He was saved by the Rangers just in time, and he eventually became their principal weaponsmith.

He also warns Artyom that the Aurora team has more men than he had bullets back then, and that nothing will be able to stop them. He narrates this anecdote to cheer up Artyom, who is in a bad mood onboard the Aurora due to Anna's deteriorating illness and the new finding that the situation in Novosibirsk is even worse than predicted. This is one of the few stories, however, that truly discloses something about Tokarev's history.

- Tokarev's name is derived from the gun of the same name, invented by Fedor Tokarev.
- Fedor Tokarev was a weapons designer and deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union from 1937 to 1950; he was responsible for the invention of the TT-30 and TT-33 handguns in the Soviet Union in the 1930s, which were used in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia after WWII.
