Biography[]

Susan makes her first appearance in the season two episode “Signal One”, when she arrives to the Undercover unit headquarters with Ellen MacKenzie, Oscar Stone recognizes her from his induction interview at the police academy, prompting Angie Piper to realize that Susan previously worked in Human Resources. Susan organizes a meeting with the unit informing them that she is taking over as Head of the Undercover unit for the time being following the recent shooting of their boss Bernie Rocca. This shocks the unit, as they expected Mac to take over for the time being, and already have a negative view towards Abbott due to her by-the-book style of policing. Some time later, Susan talks to Angie and Stone about the latter’s investigation on Graeme Wilkins, and is surprised when she finds out that Stone brought Peter Church with him to meet Stone’s informant. She later asks Mac about this, who tries to back them up. Susan then tells Mac that she feels like the unit’s keeping secrets from her, and tells Mac that it won’t be tolerated.

Following Wilkins’ arrest, Susan catches Church looking at Wilkins’ criminal record, and takes it off of him, telling him the case against Wilkins is closed, before berating him for almost jeopardizing the sting on Wilkins by following up on if Wilkins was involved in Rocca’s attempted murder. Susan then tells Church that from now on, he will follow orders when given, which Church acts defiantly against her, calling her a “desk cop”. This leaves Susan contemplating whether she should charge Church for insubordination, but she is convinced not to by Mac, who tells Susan about Church’s history with Rocca, and points out that regardless of if Church was kicked out of the police force or not, he will still look for Rocca’s shooter, before telling Susan that Church is the best operative in the unit. When Church takes down Rocca's actual shooter Anthony Trent Howarth, she easily notices the dubious methods that Church undertook to get a confession out of Howarth, but she ultimately lets him get away with it.

In the season two finale “The Dingo”, Susan assigns Terry Hanks as Church’s new informant, who claims to have vital information regarding some low-level criminals planning to steal drugs from another dealer, but Church disregards Hanks’ information, and when the crime does take place, resulting in the murder of the dealer. Susan admonishes Church for ignoring Hanks’ information, and convinces him to meet up with Hanks once again. The unit later scores a couple of arrests thanks to Hanks’ information, leading to Susan to praise Church’s efforts. However, Church and Mac notice that Susan was carrying transfer papers, leading them to wonder if Susan’s leaving or not. Susan then assigns Mac to talk a newspaper journalist named Sean Peck, regarding to any clues to a major drug dealer nicknamed The Dingo. However, Mac finds out from Peck that the Undercover unit is under review and may be shut down, and Susan is confronted about this by Mac when she returns. Susan then gathers the unit and announces to them that the review board is assessing the viability of the Undercover unit as a result of the new deputy minister’s negative view on covert police activity, leaving them completely shocked, especially Church. Susan later gets a call from an angry Bernie Rocca, who is still recovering from his shooting, and accuses Susan of collecting information on the unit for the review board, which she denies, telling Rocca that her report was only about Church's lack of action regarding the drug dealer that was killed.

Susan is later confronted in-person by Rocca when he shows up at the unit headquarters, where they have a tense conversation and she admits that her report on Church may have had some influence in the review panel’s decision, but she also tells Rocca that she herself was blindsided by them as well, as her report was a standard report which was never meant to be used against the survival of the unit, while expressing some regret that she didn't think ahead to consider the deputy minister's attempts to find any excuse to shut the unit down. However, their conversation is interrupted by Church, who has some concerns about Terry Hanks’ motives regarding the case against The Dingo, before the three later conclude that Hanks is in fact The Dingo, allowing Church to rush to Hanks’ meeting with Sean Peck to stop him from killing Peck, which ultimately results in Hanks’ death when Peck kills him to protect Church from getting stabbed.

Following the conclusion of case against The Dingo, Susan and Rocca both meet the review panel, before later returning to the unit headquarters with good news, they’ve won, and the Undercover unit will remain on active duty. Susan is also credited by Rocca for saving the unit by speaking on their behalf, which finally helps Susan earn the squad’s utmost respect, especially from Church.

Susan is not seen again after this, and when Rocca resigns from the unit several days later to spend more time with his family, Mac ultimately takes charge of the Undercover unit following her promotion to Detective Senior Sergeant.
