“ | My dad doesn't know how bad it is. (…) I saw a guy in Atlanta kill a kid. A boy. Just shot him right in the face. (…) Like put a gun to the kid's head and pull the trigger? Fuck that, man. He didn't even hesitate. He just turned, put the barrel of the gun right between this kid's eyes and pulled the trigger. You don't see things like that. It's not like in the movies. | „ |

~ Shawn's last words (determinant) |
Shawn Greene is a minor character in The Walking Dead comic, and side character in the first episode of the video game.
He was the son of Hershel Greene and farmhand on the Greene Family Farm. However while he was putting a barrier around the house he was bitten and became a zombie. His father was unable to bring himself to kill him so he locked him in the family barn until he was put down by Hershel months later.
He was voiced by Peter Edward Mussad.
Personality[]
Much like his father, Shawn was a young man with a strong sense of morals and eithics, immedietly offering his help to Lee and Clementine and being shocked when he saw a child murdered in Atlanta. He was also pragmatic and catious stressing that they should not stay in one place for too long with zombies around the area and insisting they reinforce the fence around the farm. He also takes the dangers of the apcoclypse one hundred percent seriously and is annoyned by his father's lax attitude and denial towards it. He is also very sarcastic yet playful, jokingly telling Duck to be his foreman and yell at him when he takes a break from reinforcing the fence. He does not seem to be too confident and brave in his abilties claiming he could only shoot a walker if it was far away. In his final moments he assures his father he is going to be okay to calm him down and if Lee chooses to try and save him he will show immense respect towards him before dying. When he died and reanimates as a zombie Shawn looses all sense of himself and attacks everyone including his brother Arnold. He does not even recognize his family or aknowledges his pleas which forced Hershel to tearfully put him down.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Shawn's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that he lived on Hershel's farm and helped out with the various jobs and services. He also had six younger siblings named Arnold, Lacey, Maggie, Billy, Susie and Rachel.
Video Game[]
If Lee chooses to leave with Clementine before dark, Shawn is first seen when he and Chet encounter Lee and Clementine. He accidentally mistook Clementine as Lee's daughter, to which Lee gave an explanation on how he knew her. As they were talking, a group of walkers began to approach them. Lee assisted Shawn and Chet clear the road in Clementine's neighborhood and rode in Shawn's car back to the farm.
If Lee chooses instead to leave at dark, Shawn appears with Andre Mitchell instead of Chet, and the road was already cleared. Andre fired at Lee, but then realized that they were human. Shawn accidentally mistook Clementine as Lee's daughter, to which Lee gave an explanation for how he knew her. Shawn explained that Chet had been bitten and they were attempting to find the walker who killed him. As they were talking, a zombified Chet showed up and they quickly fled the neighborhood in Andre's car. Shawn was mournful of Chet's death.
Regardless, after the escape, Shawn told Hershel whatever story Lee gave for knowing Clementine. He also suggested to fortify the fence to protect the farm, which Hershel either agreed or disagreed on, depending on Chet's fate. Nonetheless, he allowed Shawn to do it.
Shawn was seen the next morning working on the fence with Duck, to which Lee offered to help by sawing some boards. During this, Shawn talked to Lee about the things he saw while in the city, such as a cop shooting a kid point-blank in the face. Lee's responses either reassured or unnerved Shawn, but he proceeded to fortify the fence anyway. He was confident that things would work out in the end and thanked Lee for the conversation. He tells Lee that he should be fine with the wood already cut, and that Hershel is looking for him.
During Hershel's second interaction with Lee, the two hear a sudden screaming. Lee rushes to the source and sees Shawn pinned under a tractor and a pair of walkers trying to reach him from the other side of the fence. At the same moment, Duck, who had accidentally driven the tractor onto Shawn, is grabbed by a third walker, who tries to pull him to the other side of the fence.
If Lee chooses to help Shawn, Kenny will save Duck, but Lee will fail, allowing Shawn to be bitten. If Lee instead ignores Shawn's cries of pain and panic to instead help Duck, Kenny and Katjaa will be grateful, but Lee will allow Shawn to die. Regardless, Hershel will arrive and kill the zombies, unable to save Shawn. After Shawn seemingly dies from his injuries, Hershel will be furious at Kenny (and Lee, if he helped Duck instead of Shawn) and banish the group.
At the pharmacy, when Lee speaks to Kenny privately, Kenny says he feels that Shawn's blood is on his/their hands (depending on who Lee helped). Lee may choose to agree with him in that it was Kenny's/their fault, or can choose to console Kenny in that he had made a simple choice to save his son and that it had all happened too fast for Shawn's death to be on his head.
Comic Book[]
A couple days later, Shawn died and reanimated, but Hershel could not bring himself to kill him. Instead, he put Shawn in the barn after his corpse tried to attack his family. Hershel then began to place other friends and neighbors into the barn, believing a cure was forthcoming. After Hershel and Rick discuss the barn's walkers, another walker wanders over.
As Hershel attempts to put it into the barn, they all break loose. When Shawn bites Arnold's neck, Hershel tries to snap Shawn out of it and stop him attacking his little brother, but after Lacey is eaten and torn apart by a horde, Hershel apologizes to Shawn and Arnold as he looks away and shoots them both in the head, with tears streaming down his face finally allowing Shawn to rest in peace.

Trivia[]
- He is referenced in Fallout 4; the Sole Survivor can find a tractor crashed into a fence, with a ghoul lying at the front end of the tractor, near a dead settler trapped under it.
- He's the oldest of Hershel's seven children, and the only one to appear in the game. However, Hershel tells him to go check on his sister in the game, and can also mention "I wish I had five just like you" if Lee remains silent and does not answer his questions. However it's unclear which sister he was referring to as he has four.
- His death in the game explains how he became a walker in the comic. However, his death in the game differs from how it is described in the comic; Hershel explicitly states in the comic that Shawn was bitten and died after a few days, but in the game, if Lee tries to save Shawn, then Shawn is bitten and dies about thirty seconds after the attack, most likely due to blood loss. However, if Lee saves Duck, Shawn is bitten and seems to die almost instantly. It is possible that Hershel exaggerated the details of his death.
- He's one of ten comic characters to appear in the video game series, the other nine being Hershel, Glenn, Michonne Hawthorne, Elodie Hawthorne, Pete, Siddiq, Mike, Terry, and Paul.
- Shawn is the only one of these characters to have his death confirmed within the game.
- Shawn, Front, Penny, Mike, and Terry are the five characters introduced as a zombie in the comic.
- Shawn is the only Greene with an unknown age, though he is in his mid-late 20s.
- As of Issue 11, Hershel is 49, Lacey is 25, Arnold is 21, Maggie is 19, Billy is 18, and the twins (Susie and Rachel) are either 15 or 16.
