Kenta Date is the main protagonist of Denji Sentai Megaranger series and a minor character of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger series. He was the MegaRed of the Megarangers team.
He was portrayed by Hayato Oshiba.
Personality[]
Kenta is a capable and skilled fighter, but in fact, he is one of the two laziest members of the Megarangers team, alongside Miku. However, despite his arrogant, clumsy and lazy nature, he was highly playful, friendly and kindhearted and was good friends with the other Megarangers. Throughout the season, Kenta frequently argued with Kouichirou, who constantly blamed Kenta for his laziness. Kenta was a heavy player and he wasn't a good grade student in his class, while inn fact he tried to skip the lessons as often as possible to play his favorite arcade game Megaranger. Kenta was best friends with Miku, who shared a lot of traits with him, such as being lazy and playful.
Kenta was a complicated member of the team. In fact, he was an unconventional leader of the team, because he rarely was able to make a smart decisions. Kenta was in fact the complete opposite of Kouichiro in some ways, because unlike Kouichiro, who was the functional leader of the team, because of his brains and high intelligence. However, in the rare cases, Kenta was able to make smart decisions, especially in the situations when he realized how lazy he was and saw the lives of his friends were in danger. In that moments, he realized what z big responsibility he held on his shoulders and decided to become smarter to help and save his friends. While Kenta was hard to controverse his not smart nature, but he still tried to be as much intelligent as he could. Even though, of course he was still inferior in these terms to Kouichiro, for the obvious reasons, that Kouichiro was much more hardworking and disciplined member than his friend Kenta.
Overall, Kenta was one of the least intelligent members of the team, but nevertheless, he was never a selfish or spiteful in sny way and always remained a full-fledged hero, who always saved the world. Also, Kenta managed to eventually become the leader of Megarangers, even despite that initially he was unambiguosly unworthy and unsuitable for this role, but he proved that eventually he at least tried to become smarter and proved to deserve to have leadership duties, even if they needed to have dignity and responsibility qualities. But overall, he was, if not the best, but at least not bad leader.

Kenta was chosen by Doctor Kubota as a member of the Megarangers after seeing Kenta's potential, when Kenta became a champion of the Arcade game Megaranger, which was initially seen by the young man as a ordinary video game, but in reality the game was a trainer for the future members of the team destined to stop the evil alien empire Nezireji from taking over the Earth. Kenta became MegaRed and saved the Earth multiple times from the Nezireji and their minions, while spending time and hanging out with his friends. In one of the episodes, Kenta befriended a non-evil Nezireji creation, whom he nicknamed Komtang, becoming good friends with the innocent alien creature. Kenta protected the innocent animal and was in the gravely grief after Komtang was murdered by his evil brother Anglerfish Nezire. However, Kenta avenged his friend by killing the evil monster.
As MegaRed, Kenta's crest is the computer which enables him to upload data and progam himself with any type of skill; making him a potentially omnipotent warrior. In fact, on the business card that he used to present himself to the Gingamen in Gingaman vs. Megaranger, the card itself states "Ten-Thousand Ability Warrior". Kenta wields a Mega Sniper in the battle. By combining MegaBlue, MegaYellow, and MegaPink personal individual weapons, it formed the MultiAttack Rifle, that fires a ball of destructive energy. In the movie 'Megaranger vs Carranger', the five Megaranger members achieved the newfound power of Mega Tector Armor, thanks to help from Picot and Carranger. in Mega Tector Armor form, he obtained balanced between super strength and super speed, these form finisher attacks called Rainbow Impulse, where he performed a powerful energy blow that causes its enemies to disintegrate. One year after Dr Hinelar's death and celebrating his highschool graduation, he returned again with his other teammates in 'Gingaman vs. Megaranger' to stopped Hizumina, Gregory, and the revived Balban once and for all.
Gokaiger[]
Kenta makes his final appearance as a guest character in Gokaiger, when he worked at Moroboshi High when he was 32 and befriended the Gokaigers and invited the pirate Rangers to spend a day in his former school as a student, while he would gove them a powers of the Megarangers. He also helped the Gokaigers save Moroboshi High from the ruthless pirate terrorist Basco ta Jolokia, who invaded the school woth his armies in order to steal the powers of the Megarangers.
