Isane Kotetsu is one of the characeters from anime/manga Bleach series. She was originally a lieutenant in the 4th Division of the Gotei 13, but after the death of Captain Retsu Unohana, Isane took her place. Her lieutenant is her younger sister, Kiyone Kotetsu, the former 13th Division's 3rd Seat.
She is voiced by Yukana in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Stephanie Sheh in the English version.
Appearance[]
Isane is a young girl with gray eyes and short silver hair with strands on the right side of her face, reaching down to her shoulders and arranged in two thin braids. However, her most characteristic physical feature is her very tall stature, being actually the tallest woman in all of Soul Society and second to Meninas McAllon as the tallest woman of all of Bleach, measuring at 187 cm. She wears the standard Shinigami uniform with the Lieutenant's Badge on her left shoulder.
When she became a captain, her hair became much straighter and smoother, however, leaving the two thin braids she had before. In addition, she is wearing the standard captain's haori.
Personality[]
Isane is very kind, quiet, shy and exremely loyal most of the time, especially to her captain, Retsu Unohana, who she sees not only as her mentor, but even as her mother, whom she can always turn to for advice when she has a problem with something. She especially often visits her at night, when she can't fall asleep due to nightmares that she dreams quite often. Her nightmares are usually extremely bizarre or even whimsical in terms of what happens in them. She even once had a nightmare about kamaboko (a fishcake made with mashed surimi), which she dislikes very much. She was so attached to Unohana that when she left her a farewell note as she was getting ready to fight to the death against Kenpachi Zaraki in Muken, Isane burst into tears.
Isane is also very complex due to her tall height. It bothers her so much that she has started eating oatmeal compulsively, due to its very low level of nutrients. Once, when she heard that Toshiro was cutting his afternoon naps because sleep is said to help children grow faster, Isane decided that she would never fall asleep again.
