Following Stephen's return and stopping undead heroes, the two have married.
She was created by the late Steve Ditko and the late Stan Lee, and first appeared in Strange Tales #126 in August-November of 1964.
Biography[]
Background[]
Clea was born in the Dark Dimension to the dimension's native Orini and the Faltine Umar, thus making her a hybrid of both species. She was raised by her father in the dimension and never knew her mother, as Umar lost her sanity when she couldn't return to her Faltine form and was banished by her brother Dormammu.
Becoming Strange's Apprentice[]
Clea and her father worshipped Dormammu, and when her uncle decided to conqueror Earth, she encountered the sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange when he arrived. She became impressed by the sorcerer, and attempted to warn him to leave the dimension to save his life, but Strange refused. She was then imprisoned by her uncle as an act of punishment, and Clea witnessed Dormammu fight the sorcerer supreme until the Mindless Ones escaped during their battle. Clea was freed by Dormammu and ended his attempt to conqueror Earth due to owing Strange for helping him imprison the Mindless Ones. Later on, Clea was imprisoned again by Dormammu, whom tasked Baron Mordo to defeat Strange.
Doctor Strange managed to defeat Mordo and Dormammu, but Clea was sent to another dimension until she was later rescued as her uncle was defeated once again. However, Umar returned since the Dark Dimension had no ruler and Clea was banished to another dimension until her mother was stooped. The Ancient One then arrived, telling Strange that it was best that Clea be sent to a dimension to keep her safe, but she arrived and found her uncle there. She was saved once again and Strange decided that it was best to keep her on Earth, where she soon started to miss the Dark Dimension since she no longer had her powers. Clea started to study magic and Strange decided to make her his apprentice, and the two went on adventures while growing close with each other.
Rulership[]
Despite the two falling in love with each other, Clea learned that Dormammu disappeared and that the Dark Dimension needed a new ruler, and she was asked with being his replacement. She decided to do so despite Strange's pleads, and she joined the realm's resistance to fight against her mother and father. Clea confronted her parents, and defeated and banished the two from the realm, becoming the dimension's ruler. She later reunited with Strange, and the two decided to wear mystical rings that connected to them for eternity since they couldn't marry. Her relationship with him suffered due to her duties with the dimension, as Dormammu often returned and the resistance needed her to stop him. Though the two reconciled, Clea and Strange decided not to end their marriage but remain as friends.
Becoming Sorcerer Supreme[]
When reality was at risk of being destroyed, Doctor Strange decided to ask for Mephisto's help, but in exchange that Clea would lose her memory of the hero. Though Stephen kept his end of the bargain, he was killed and his deal with the villain was broken, which allowed Clea to regain her memories of him. She spoke to him before he passed, and he revealed that he left her the Eye of Agamotto and his cloak to her to use. Clea then became the new sorcerer supreme and adopted Stephen's last name to honor him, but also wanted to bring her lover back.
Ultimate Marvel[]
On Earth-1610, Clea was Doctor Strange's pupil and lover who became pregnant with his child, but the sorcerer vanished soon after. She was left grief-stricken by this, and decided to raise their son without knowing his father or telling him of his father's sorcery.
