Kurenai Kōgetsu, also known as Madame Kurenai, is the main antagonist of the Sun Jewel arc from Edens Zero. In the past, unlike her good counterpart from Universe 0, she used to have amassed a large debt from Drakken Joe and her gambling sprees, but after being rescued from her debt by Valkyrie, Kurenai betrays her in exchange to take control as Sun Jewel. As the ruler of Sun Jewel, she has turned the inhabitants that have defied her into slaves that mine jewelries for her. While she lets them do the work, she primarily lives her life in luxury from all their hard work.
Unlike her good counterpart from Universe 0, She abandoned Homura Kōgetsu, her daughter, in exchange to gamble in casinos for paying her own debt from Drakken Joe.
She initially had a tragic background of being forced to work in the mines for Baron Mordo, but she subverted her tragedy by betraying Valkyrie's trust to gain more power.
After being rescued from the Labor District of Sun Jewel with Valkyrie and and Paul's help, Kurenai betrayed them both, so she can become Baron Mordo's wife and kill him to take control of Sun Jewel.
As the new ruler of Sun Jewel, she became an even worse ruler than Baron Mordo by forcing the Labor District workers to be put into life threatening situations, so she herself can gain jewelries.
Her decision to release a lot of Stones for the workers to kill had caused Valkyrie to get killed off from the hordes of stones she had to face, while Kurenai could only celebrate on the loot she is gaining.
Her self-proclaimed justice is only an excuse to enslave criminals or innocent people who have only committed misdemeanors to work in the Labor District for giving her jewelries.
Once she enslaves them, she gives them a false sense of hope that they will all be let out if they mine enough jewels, only for their own collars to reset its number to force the workers into mining jewels until the end of their life.
Sun Jewel arc[]
She has a group of criminals be given disproportionate retribution by being vaporized with the Satellite Blaze.
Burning Cedric's face, not listening to his pleas of not wanting his beauty be taken away.
Hearing Drakken Joe's mention of the Edens Zero ship, she plans on taking it for herself, not planning on sharing a portion of its value to Drakken Joe.
Wanted to use the Oculus Kurenai to kill all the Labor District Workers as a way to stop them from rebelling against her and that they have outlived their usefulness in providing her jewelries.
Sadistically admits that Valkyrie was only a pawn whose purpose served her a path to gain power.
Refused to return to her daughter and instead wanted to everyone on the Labor District.
Used her Kurenai Dragoon to battle Shiki Granbell, which had caused lots of destruction around Sun Jewel.
Upon being defeated by Shiki, she begs in a cowardly manner to be spared.
Once she confront her daughter, Kurenai attempts to appear as a caring mother, but Homura is able to clearly see through the facade.
Even when Homura lets her go, Kurenai runs away believing that she escaped her punishment, until Cedric returns to turn her into a pet of his gang.
While she was indeed captured by her own slaves to be abused (physically and sexually) to death for retribution and revenge, Kurenai is never given any type of sympathy for what she endured.
Trivia[]
Her Universe 0 counterpart does not qualify as a hate sink since she is proven to be heroic and genuinely cares about her daughter so much.
