- "We'll be learning Bombarda Maxima, the strongest variation of the Exploding Charm [sic]. Now, this spell is quite dangerous, so exercise caution when casting your explosions. Bombarda Maxima is quite similar to Bombarda, except more... explodey."
- — Olivia Green introducing the spell to her seventh-year Defence Against the Dark Arts students[src]
Bombarda Maxima was the incantation used for the strongest variation of the Bombardment Spell.[2] It provoked large, violent explosions capable of demolishing entire walls.[1][2]
History[]
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the then Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Olivia Green, taught her seventh-years how to use this spell in class, as part of her curriculum focused on both theoretical and practical defensive magic.[2]
Known practitioners[]
Etymology[]
See the page for Bombarda. "Maxima" in Latin means "the largest".
Behind the scenes[]
- "I'll make short work of this. Bombarda Maxima."
- — Dolores Umbridge[src]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Professor Umbridge uses this to break into the Room of Requirement.[1] In the book, however, Dobby warns the DA about Umbridge before she arrives, and they are caught when trying to escape.[3] This means that Umbridge's usage of this spell in this instance is not canon.
