The Vancouver Agitators #2

Those Three Little Words

Rate this book
I knocked up my best friend's sister.

Figured I would get straight to the point because how it happened is a mere snippet of the story I have to tell. The real meat and potatoes is what happened after.

Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news . . . together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting and then BAM! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist.

It wasn't pretty.

Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Given how much I've pined for the girl, you would think that wouldn't be a hardship. Wrong.

This is my one shot to win my teammate back. Pacey is the only family I've got, so hooking up with his sister isn't a mistake I can make twice . . . despite the fact that she's pregnant with my child.

But with every mood swing, every pair of pants that doesn't fit right, and every late night run to find the perfect donut, I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

there’s ✨quirky✨ and then there’s Penny.

can authors stop with the rambling, fumbling heroines who are literal “goddesses” but have no idea they’re attractive yet everyone in a ten mile radius stops and stares (occasionally walking into lampposts or maybe spilling coffee down their shirts) in hopes to catch a glimpse of the the quirky not-like-other-girls goddess and her otherworldly beauty.

there was never ending dialogue of Penny just talking shite out of her arse. would you like some whipped cream with all that waffle, babe?

and of course, our hero, Eli, finds it adorably cute and charming. but when other girls do it, it would irritate him and turn him off... but Penny is just soooooo special, you see, that he can’t help but find her incredibly endearing. and it helps she had a “tight rack”.

even her inner monologue was exhausting with her rambling she. like this bitch really goes off on a tangent about the functionality of EARLOBES. i really wish i was making this shit up, fr:
I don’t think earlobes are the least bit sexy. They’re dangling skin bits attached to your head. It’s a good thing someone thought to pierce them because they need a little something to make them not so freaky. But yes, here I am, panting and sweating like a freaking hockey player after three periods on the ice from one little nip.
A brief nibble.

these types of interjections just ruined the whole damn vibe of the book :/ not a moment of peace from the psychotic thoughts of Penny Lawes.

That’s why I need the booze. Because I’m a bundle of nerves about to either curl into a ball of anxiety or legit pull my boob from my dress and lay it on the table as an appetizer for the voraciously hungry man sitting next to me.
Boob for the taking. Preferably to be used as a sucking device.
DO YOU SEE WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT?
I’ve completely lost it.

no Penny, hun, idk what the fuck you’re talking about. and im really glad i don’t. but i agree that you’ve completely lost it, for sure.

Hornsby was a knob too. the typical sex-pest hero who literally can’t think of anything outside of his own penis. he was just so irritating bcos sex was on his brain 24/7 and he felt like a walking talking red flag, honestly.

“Okay.” I straighten my shoulders. “Then I need to make sure that after dessert, we part ways and say good night.”
His jaw clenches, and I can see his irritation in the tic of his cheek and the way he glances away. Will he agree? My guess is dessert was a ploy. I might be buzzed, but I’m not stupid.

i found this whole exchange weird. like he’s pissed off she doesn’t want to sleep with him... grow up😭😭 just to see that visceral reaction he had when she insists they go for desert then go home separately was a major red flag for me. you’re not entitled to her body just bcos you want it. idk, just the way it was written left a bitter taste in my mouth? especially bcos she’d been drinking a lot and he hadn’t... he for sure knew better :/

he was just weird as fuck. trying to get her back to his apartment in anyway he could. and it was written like it was playful and charming, while i just found it nauseating. like everything revolves around sex for him. he truly had no personality outside of sex— trying to have sex, making sexual innuendos that a 12 year old pubescent boy would say, the only mugs he owns are somehow in the shape of boobs. top-tier humour there, lad.

“You are welcome,” I say while picking up my mug. I rub the nipples of my mug a few times and glance up at her.
“What are you doing?” she asks.
“This is all the action I’m getting tonight, so I might as well enjoy it.” I pinch the nipple and let out a ridiculous moan that makes her laugh so loud that I mentally pat myself on the back for pulling that joy from her.

this is seriously the least funny, least sexy, cringiest thing i have ever read. if i was on a date and someone did that, i would be calling the police for real. like you can’t tell me he wasn’t one of those boys at the back of the class who used to moan loud as fuck thinking it was peak humour to disrupt the teacher and get everyone laughing.

even Penny said: It’s made me wonder if the only language Eli speaks with women is flirt. seriously the man couldn’t hold a conversation that didn’t involve sex.

AND he couldn’t go five weeks without actively seeking out sex (it never went anywhere beyond kissing since none of the girls were Penny... but seriously?? you’re that obsessed with sex??) he acted like it was a damn AA meeting, six steps to recovery and all that shit with him trying to seek out new sex partners after her💀

And trying to have sex with someone else other than her has been next to impossible. Took me two weeks to even attempt to look at someone else, and when I went out to bars and flirted, I went home alone. By the end of the night, I simply wasn’t interested.
Last week, I finally kissed someone in the hallway of a bar, which was a huge step for me, but it led to nothing.

“which was a huge step for me”. not straight white men.

it’s like he wanted me to cry about it on his behalf? noooo, Hornsby, bby!! you had to— to keep it in your pants??? im so sorry you had to go through that :( are you okay?? how are you coping? just take things one day at a time.

and the worst thing? they had zero chemistry.

like damn it was painful to read. he asked her if she liked bread👁👄👁 i think it was supposed to be funny but it was embarrassing, exhausting and just all around cringe.

description

and you know how pregnant heroines tend to call their unborn babies something cute and endearing so they don’t call the child “it”? maybe raspberry, bean, or olive— they’re amongst some i have read (usually something that reflects the size of the baby??) well Penny clearly misunderstood the assignment bcos she named the baby “Peggy Leggy”.

again, i get it, you’re quirky. but just say it once and fuck off.

at times she would emphasise how weird she was and i fully expected a Jughead Jones type of monologue any minute.

description

so i dnfed this around 25%. i wanted to see the pregnancy through but literally none of the characters in this were likeable to me whatsoever... maybe Poesy... maybe.

p.s. this cover is so fugly.

I LOOOOOVE the pregnancy trope and I don't read nearly enough of it, so if you're looking for your next pregnancy trope book, THIS IS ITTTT.

It's also a sports romance (hockey) and a best friend's sibling trope.

I found this so cute and so wholesome. Literally fell in love with them from the start. I love their dynamic. I love how eager Eli is to be part of her pregnancy. I love that he made sure she knew that he was moving in because HE wanted to and not because of anyone else. They share a ton of wholesome moments that honestly gave me baby fever 💀 (but it's fine cause one look at my niece and nephews and it's gone LMAOOOO)

I've read a few other books from Meghan and I've enjoyed those just like this one, but I will say I found this to be my most wholesome read from her. The other ones I've read (Earn Your Extra Credit and A Not So Meet Cute) had humor as one of the key factors for me, but in this one, the tenderness really jumped out. I think it's because it's obviously the two of them going through the pregnancy together and his attentiveness towards her and his willingness to be at her beck and call just made me wanna scream with joy.

There is still a good amount of humor (and spice 🥵) in here! The things she gets up to had me giggling. AND THIS MAN GOES TO THERAPY. Heart eyes immediately.

He knows his strengths and weaknesses and seeks help from people around him when he needs it. His background story also makes me wanna weep because Eli deserves the world!! 🥺 There's a good amount of bromance here too, which I always love a good group of guy friendships.

Definitely recommend, I loved it so much!! ❤️❤️

Romance was subpar. The heroine was way too fucking annoying and of course, blame it on the PreGnaNCy hOrMOneS 🙄 No, girl, it's just you. You're not quirky, you're just a ✨ p s y c h o ✨
Authors should really stop making their heroines fucking crazy and the hero suddenly finding it endearing 🤮

This was a hard review to write. I stewed upon it. For days. While I genuinely love Meghan's writing, I just couldn't get behind these two characters. Penny was extremely immature and acted much like my three year old when he doesn't get what he wants. Meanwhile, Eli, charming sweet Eli, literally changed his entire life for her AND went to therapy to deal with his abandonment issues and she still acted like a petulant child. The relationship felt forced and just left a bad taste in my mouth. Not a fan of the book, huge HUGE fan of Meghan's.

As much as I hate the secret baby troupe, I absolutely love the accidental/surprise baby troupe! I loved Eli and Penny’s story so much! Meghan Quinn always makes me laugh and writes the most hilarious and steam books! Honestly, I thought for sure this would be a 5 star read for me and it would of been if it wasn’t for the last 2 hours or so. I loved the actual ending, but Penny’s behavior and antics towards the end were really immature and rubbed me the wrong way. Overall, I still truly enjoyed this one and can’t wait to get more from these hockey boys!

4.25 ⭐️ pls this book was so wholesome and hilarious!!! I love cackling, so this was right up my alley. Eli was such a sweetie, a man who goes to therapy? to better himself? immediately yes. & Penny was so mf funny. unpopular opinion but i’m a fan of the pregnancy trope if it’s done well, and I feel like this did it for me. I also loved the bromance and found family between the players!!!!!! and blakely, winnie’s and penny’s friendship.. AHHH yes. I already sense some tropes for the other guys and i’m SO EXCITED.

PS. I CANNOT WAIT FOR BLAKELY’S STORY BECAUSE SHES MY FAVORITE 🫶🏻

DNF @ 33%

I just could not stand Penny. She doesn't quite land the adorkable thing, she instead comes across like a self-absorbed asshole. No, pregnancy isn't a blanket excuse to be an asshole at all times about all things, even going so far as to assault the lead male character in your utterly strained scene of the latest adorkable goofiness. Oh no, I puked in his lucky shoes! I must act like a lunatic and put him down so he doesn't realize, and then when he does I must kick him in the nuts because he might be mad!

She is beyond annoying, and just constantly dumping on Eli in every way possible. As selfishly as possible. And just dumber than a glazed donut.

I knew I was going to have a problem with her from the outset, with how she decided to tell them about the pregnancy. It would have been impossible for her to come up with a way to do it worse. And dragging someone uninvolved entirely, into a shitty and awkward conversation, because you felt like it? And acting like it's a work thing, summoning them to your office?

Just no.

And it was downhill from there.

Edit to add: I binged some reviews after I wrote mine, to see how other people felt about it... And holy shit I'm glad I bailed when I did. Yeesh.

I have never struggled in my life as much as I struggled to get through one page of this book. I was fighting for a reason to not fling my phone across the room. It was only by some godly miracle that I was able to finish this book. I was gonna dnf it like a thousand times.

Penny, one of the MCs, is literally one of the worst characters I have ever read. She is insufferable, annoying, "not like other girls" (thank God cause we don't need anyone like her), qUiRcKy and just downright abusive. The way this author just spoke about how the only issues in pregnancy is being horny and "crazy" is honestly just terrible. Like this book is filled with so much sex scenes that don't even make sense and that are too excessive, I kept skipping them. Honestly this book was 0.5% plot, 0.5% about her actual pregnancy and not just that it makes her horny and crazy, and 99%sex.

That scene with the doctor is very unprofessional and it made me feel uncomfortable. no doctor is entitled to hear such details. It was unrealistic and honestly annoying. If I was penny's doctor, I would have thrown her out, but that doctor was somehow just as bad...

The thing that infuriated me the most though is how Penny kept utilizing her pregnancy to excuse her horrible and abusive behavior. Her "rambling" was forced and annoying. I felt like slam dunking her for it honestly. And the fact that she was emotionally and verbally abusive to the person she supposedly loves yet the author somehow made her the victim is disgusting. This is the first book I read written by this author and I am sure it will be my last. I can't believe how abusive behavior kept being excused. The writing was terrible, the plot was non-existent, the characters are unlovable, the epilogue was horrible. It is so concerning how many people view their relationship as healthy, quirky and wholesome when it was nothing but. All in all, a very terrible book. I wish I never even came across it.

I really, really wanted to like this book. I’ve enjoyed so many of Meghan Quinn’s books, especially the Getting Lucky series, but this was not for me. I was genuinely struggling not to get mad at Penny and Pacey throughout the novel. And let me tell you all, I miserably failed. The great parts in the book resided in their awkward banter which was hilarious, their come-to-jesus moment on the bus, and the sweet moments after that. After the dinner with Penny’s parents, that’s where the book lost me. If I was dedicated to reading this book, I would’ve just read the last page and moved on with my next book.

So, the good parts about the book? I thoroughly enjoyed Eli, Blakey, Posey, and Winnie. I haven’t read Winnie’s and Pacey’s story, but Winnie seems amazing. Blakey is a blessing in this book because she helps the couple sort out their dysfunctional relationships, calls it how she sees it, and isn’t afraid to tell Penny when she's wrong. Posey also provides this for Eli. I think Quinn made a great artistic choice to not fully write Eli’s birthday night. I love that it’s a private moment for our couple. Also, naming the baby Holden? My heart melted.

The bad? I hate how everyone assumes Eli is the one to blame for most of the couple's fights/mistakes. Don’t even get me started on Penny’s birthday, Eli took a huge hit for that FOR NO REASON. But anyways. Besides Penny, Pacey is the worst character in this book. They both try to determine what other people deserve in this book. Penny can at least blame the last 20% of the book on her pregnancy, but she’s not a great character nor does she evolve/grow throughout the book.

Things I wished were in the book: Eli’s therapy sessions, more of Penny’s job rather than the ideas?Pacey and Winnie conclusion, Penny realizing she was wrong for going out with Remi, abandoning Eli in the cabin, and you know, an actual Penny apology.

It really does break my heart that I didn’t like this book because I am such a fan of Quinn, but this was a showcase of chaos.

sorry

I am convinced I am in the minority because I cannot understand in my honest opinion someone giving this book 5 stars and loving it. Sorry Meghan Quinn, loved your Brentwood Baseball series but this?
Comedy is forced, one second I like Penny and the other I’m grabbing my hair yelling at her to shut up in my head because she’s so stupid or immature. I just felt like the story was dragged on. What really put me over was the ridiculous scene with Dr. Big Pecs. No - just No!
I did some serious speed reading to get to the end.
Speaking of end - the labor portion? Eye roll 🙄

The baby name? Yes ☺️

This was so painfully bad it’s laughable. As someone who has had a baby I also found it kind of insulting. Every single bad decision made by Penny was blamed on ‘hormones’ but the MC actually seemed insane and for most of the book the MC’s don’t even like each other romantically- boring! So disappointing considering MQ is one of my favourite authors. Unfortunately I’ve noticed her books getting worse so I’m not sure if I’ll read another in the future. The only redeeming thing was Eli (if that’s even his name- why name all characters either Levi/Eli/Posey/Pacey/Penny/Perry - my god were there no other names to use that weren’t so similar) as he was sweet but even that’s a stretch to find something good about the book.

love the accidental pregnancy trope but I can't keep listening to this despite my love for Teddy Hamilton I just can't...
someone needs to explain to me the appeal of the older brother best friend trope especially when a said brother is so bothered by his grown sister's love life. I REALLY DON'T GET THIS CONFLICT!!!

why she tells the hero she is pregnant in front of the brother and two other people who didn't ask to be involved in your shit, she actually plans that, in her office...

I am too annoyed and not entertained at all...

This is a cute and funny brother's best friend/teammate accidental pregnancy romance. The FMC is hilarious and I loved the awkward attempts at flirting/humor when they get nervous. This was also a hockey romance, which I of course love.

I really enjoyed the first 70%, but after that it felt like it was dragging on for wayyyy too long. It was more of a slow burn, which I typically don't mind because that usually means the relationship has a stronger foundation, there is less drama, etc. But that really wasn't the case here. Neither of them were being honest about their feelings and they just. wouldn't. communicate. almost up until the very end. It felt very "one step forward, three steps back". It was also over 500 pages. I think had it been shorter, I wouldn't have reached the point of being so frustrated lol, bc I really was enjoying it for a while!

Ultimately it was cute and fun and I laughed out loud, but tbh it was a struggle to finish the last 30%.

I’m a huge Meghan fan, but this one was almost a DNF for me (multiple times ..even at 80%). I get trying to make a character quirky and trying to make a book humorous, but by 3/4 of the way through the book, I felt like Penny wasn’t quirky- she was a psychopath. This one was a miss for me. I miss the days (and writing style) of Jason, Maddox and Carson.

Am I supposed to be working on my school work right now? Yes. Will I write a book review instead? Yes.

So basically, I have a lot to say. At first I heard of this book through tiktok, and I was really intrigued, I was like "Hell yeah, Hockey man, pregnancy trope, funny female lead". Although now, my option is very much changed.

Let's start at the beginning, a very good place to start. So at the begging, we're introduced to Eli and Penny, he likes her, his bestfriends stopping him because that's his bestfriends sister. Blah blah, boring start ngl. The real juice starts when Penny tells them she's pregnant, and ofc her brother freaks out and punches Eli for getting her pregnant.

Hold up- the teachers giving me a side eye.

Sorry, I'm back. Anyways as I was saying, she gets preggo, he moves in, takes responsibility ect. doesn't want to be his father and wishes to break the cycle. If I'm being completely honest, he is such a well rounded character with backstory, a reputation, family, trauma, ect. ect. But Penny on the other hand only has some humor, it feels like the author didn't bother with her and made her pregnancy her entire personality.

Anyways, everything was going good, a little back and forth as he worked through as he balances, finding out he's going to become a father, hockey and living with practically a stranger. And all while they're working to figure out their feelings, they come closer together. But then it all takes a turn, Penny finds out how she feels first -aka she likes him a lot- as Eli is still working through his childhood trauma that is resurfacing, his abandonment issues and his best friend forbidding him to be with Penny, something she doesn't take into consideration.

So she tries to flirt and seduce him into being with her, rather than communicating her emotions and feelings with him and telling her brother to F off. After a while of restraining himself from admitting his feelings for her and breaking his promise to his best friend, he cracks, kissing her, only to admitting it was a mistake because her brother is his only family left and he can't lose that by breaking a stupid promise.

So instead of once again talking to her brother, she pushes him away. Blah blag blah, things happen, they eventually end up together, then she says "I love you" and him still working with his issues, freezes and she takes that as her que to flea the scene. KNOWING DAMN WELL HE HAS ABANDONMENT ISSUES! Anyways, he panics ect ect.

Her pregnancy moves farther along and her mood swings surface so she's a bitch, I mean usually I can tolerate it and understand bc shes preggo, but she didn't even feel sorry that she messed up his very tidy apartment and drew penises everywhere, and acted like a child. And that's where I draw the line. Eli was nothing but understanding, kind and so so so accommodating with her during her pregnancy, and all she did was get hung up on the fact that because of his childhood he has issues recognising love.

Anyways the start of the book 2/5, the middle 4/5 but the ending, ugh 1/5. Honestly the way she behaved and disregarded his entire feelings throughout the end ruined the entire book for me. Sorry for the rant and the spoilers, but ugh.

While I still found Penny funny in the beginning, she took a turn for the worst, and don't even justify it with the Pregnancy, because at one point she didn't tell him about her birthday and HAD THE AUDACITY TO BE MAD AT HIM. I'm not hearing anyone out, I did not like Penny.

This is hands down my favorite MQ book, EVER. I loved every single thing about it! Penny and Eli were extraordinary characters and I just couldn't get enough of them. Their love was so intoxicating (ha, see what I did there? *winks*) and all consuming. I was laughing so hard I was crying, and then crying because this book was just so damn emotional. Again, what a perfect book!

And maybe it's because I recently gave birth again, but Penny has to be the realest pregnant lady ever. Her psychopathic mood swing gave me life, and I almost wish I was still pregnant so I could use that as an excuse for my crazy moods🤣🤣.

I'm just so in love with these hockey men! I wish I could clone Meghan so we could get their stories all at once. I NEED more. Because all the breadcrumbs that were dropped about their leading ladies? I'M DYING. I need their books pronto!

Just in case I wasn't clear, this book is pure perfection and I just know you all will love it! Make sure you read it once it goes live! You definitely don't want to miss out on this!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **

Cute & funny surprise pregnancy sports romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🙂🥰☺️😎😂
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Penny Dawes - she has a job on the social media team for the Vancouver Agitators, mainly in TikTok. Her brother Pacey is the star goalie for the same team. Pacey is very protective of his little sister. When all the players on the team, including Pacey were asked who on the team would you least like to date your sister, nearly all of them immediately said Hornsby.

The Hero: Eli Hornsby - He is the best defensive player in the NHL and plays for the Vancouver Agitators. Pacey Dawes is his best friend on the team. He doesn’t have family since he was raised by a single mother who has since passed away when he was twelve, so he designed a nice homey feel for his fancy apartment. On his birthday, which happens to be on Valentine’s Day, he goes out to a singles bar with his friend Posey, though Posey leaves after ten minutes.

The Story: Penny goes out to the same club with her best friend Blakely on Valentine’s Day, and Blakely found a man to hang out with right away, so Penny ends up sitting next to Eli Hornsby, her brother’s best friend. They get along well, but Hornsby is a major player and not just on the ice. He is also the most handsome man she has ever met. They end up having a one-night stand, though Hornsby isn’t hot on ending things there, Penny ghosts him in the morning. Five weeks later she finds out she is pregnant and decides to tell Pacey and Eli at the same time, with their friend Posey there to mitigate any fighting.

I have liked Meghan Quinns books for quite a while, and she does sports romance very well. Her books are always a good length which I like, with great characters and are always fun and interesting. I have actually listened to two books in this series on audiobook and gave them five stars each. So, getting this one was a no brainer. There were some really hilarious situations in this one and I really liked the characters and supporting characters.

I loved that Eli has abandonment issues from his past. After his mom died, he ended up living with some relatives that didn’t show him any love. He is afraid of losing his friend, Pacey and also, he has never been in love, so is afraid he will hurt Penny. Though I kind of hate the best friend's sister trope, especially when the characters are adults, though in this case I can kind of see why Pacey didn’t want Hornsby with his sister at the beginning, since he was such a player.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Kelsey Navarro. Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorite male narrators, he has a great voice and always sounds natural. You can’t tell he is reading at all. Kelsey Navarro has a good voice, though she isn’t great at using different voices for different characters. The scenes of Penny talking to her friend Blakely were hard, because I couldn’t tell who was talking at any given time.

I would have never thought the book was sports romance by the cover. But then again, you should judge a book by its cover. On top of sports romance, there are also several different tropes.

I feel like I am missing a trope. Anyway, I belly laughed from this book. It was just what I needed.

Eli is my kind of hero. Slightly broken but larger-than-life attitude. He has always had a thing for Penny, his best friend's sister. But he knew she was completely off-limits. Penny is sassy, takes no bull, and when nervous, babbles with has no filter. It’s hilarious

After their one-night stand leads to an accidental pregnancy, Penny decides to tell Eli and her brother together she is pregnant. Yeah, that didn’t end up in their favor. It’s just a hot mess and only gets better from thereon.

Now forced together and get to know each other, we read their journey through every stage of the pregnancy and what a wild ride it is, between the shoe incident and Peggy Leggy. It was a comical and fabulous read. Don’t get me started when the parents came to visit. Classic.

No clue why it took me so long to read a book from this author. Better late than never. I look forward to future books in the series.

just can’t read romance books with over 500 pages if they are not written by mariana zapata. dnf @ 30 ¿ don’t remember tbh. don’t like the characters at all. penny is annoyingly insecure w a lot of pick me energy. like girl i get it after the 5th time of you mentioning to eli how bad you are at sex. just shut up it’s like i can hear her annoying voice through the screen. eli boring nothing special about him i mean i get him he was always irritated by her shit and honestly i don’t blame him but can’t bring myself to finish this.

4.5 surprise pregnancy, I-can’t-believe-you-fell-for-that stars

Meghan Quinn is my go-to for feel good, laugh-out-loud books; add in a surprise pregnancy and I’m there! Even though this was slow burn 😅. Side note- the audiobook is duet narration… soooo good!!!

Eli (28) has always felt attracted to Penny. The problem? Well, she’s his best friend’s sister, and she’s off limits 😬. So when he’s celebrating his bday and he sees her, he can’t hold back how he feels… and he wants her 👀.

Penny helps manage the team. She’s always thought Eli’s been cute, but he has a reputation (besides his very famous ankles that have an IG account 😂). So when she goes out with her best friend Blakely, sees Eli at the bar, she starts losing her inhibitions around him, and then all bets are off… and their clothes too 😅👀.

Weeks later, she finds out she’s pregnant… and she decides she’ll tell both her brother Pacey and Eli at the same time 😬 good thing Posey’s there too 😅. Pacey basically decides that Eli will be moving in with Penny ASAP. Let the forced proximity begin 😉.

I love how they had to navigate being around each other and the notion of becoming parents. There were so many LOL moments from me. From the nose strips, to the weak calves, to the microchip, to the fart text, to the secret password and naked FaceTiming, I was 😂😂😂 a lot! And don’t get me started on Penny’s mood swings and Eli trying to navigate them 😅 and the ObGyn visits 🤣🫣💀🤣 (the duet narration totally made these scenes even better!!!)

And then we have the steamy stuff. Poor Penny trying to seduce Eli and break him not only had be snorting, but also fanning my face 🥵. Because these two have che-mis-try! These two might try to deny their attraction, but they’re like two magnets.

Sure, Penny used her feminine wiles to get Eli to give in 😈and oh does he 🥵. I love how he’s always ensuring Penny feels pleasure 👀 (the way he celebrates her birthday was 🔥). Jeeezus. We don’t see any action until the 60s% and then finally cave into their chemistry until the 70s%, but my gosh it was 🔥🔥💦💦. Afterwards, it’s on 😉💦😅🥵🔥. Penny’s libido is on steroids, and Eli has to keep up 👀.

There were so many swoony moments too 🥰. From the gummy bears to the craving errands to the Three Little Words, I was swooning 🥹.

And I especially loved the OMD scenes 🙃. Eli shows his JP side and becomes a caveman… and I was here for it 💁🏻‍♀️😈.

I wish their first encounter wasn’t FTB 😐😑😑😑. Um… it’s the whole reason why we have a book. Maybe it’s because it’s early in the book and MQ doesn’t write fast burn books? I was left disappointed 😒. I would’ve been down to sign up for a bonus scene of it too 🤷🏻‍♀️. Sigh. Oh well 😐.

Overall, I loved it

This was tough for me because I usually love Meghan Quinn’s book, specifically the banter between her characters. This book however was very difficult to finish, I almost stopped many times.
Penny was the absolute worst, she was childish and annoying. Her “pranks” were unnecessary and not pranks at all but more “let’s piss this person off and call it a joke”. From the beginning on how she told Eli he was going to be a father, until the very end she was awful. She doesn’t seem to have a personality aside from being pregnant and “awkward”… shes not even awkward, you’re told she’s awkward more than shown.
Eli was a typical hockey fboy at the beginning, but has redeeming qualities that you discovered throughout the book.
Considering Eli has been crushing on Penny for years, you didn’t really understand why or feel any chemistry between them. I also don’t understand why Eli kept insisting that Pacey (Penny’s brother) was his best friend when you never saw them interact… they were teammates, that’s it… it’s not a best friend’s brother trope when you don’t understand or read about their friendship.
I feel like this book was unnecessarily long considering I still have so many more questions, I feel like we needed more backstory or history of the mains.
Hoping the next book is better!

If it was possible to rate this book zero or negative stars I would do it in a heartbeat.

I literally skipped through half of the scenes because it was just dragging on. The characters were annoying and the writing style is the absolute worst thing ever. I literally wanted to bang my head against a wall...... multiple times.

Let me give you some examples (this is all internal monologue btw):

“Ummm . . . what?
*Blinks*
*Blinks again*
She’s, uh . . . clears throat...”

“My . . . *gulp* p*ssy pulse against his length. I never in my life have heard such a sinister sentence.”

“*Whispers* I actually meant what I said. A gallon. A full-on gallon of creamy, delicious milkiness”

“Could she be in the bathroom again? Could she be . . . airing out? *winces* Don’t want to disturb that process.”

“That’s right. I can lie through my teeth.
*Cracks knuckles* Let’s get down to business.”

Like ???????? I want to erase my memory just so I can never think about this book again.

Those Three Little Words is a book that I enjoyed so much. It has been a while since I picked up Miss Quinn's book and I am not disappointed.

The rom com is spot on. With so much silly and fun banter between Penny and Eli, I laughed so much. I usually not a big fan of pregnant by accident kind of trope. But I was proven wrong with Those Three Little Words.

I like how Penny and Eli takes their time to get to know each other. It is such a funny, tender and sweet moment.
