Exhibition 2022

Goldfields Quilters Exhibition for 2022 was held on 17th & 18th September. What a wonderful success as a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Goldfields Quilters Inc.

There was definitely a buzz in the air as people continued to come through those doors in a steady stream despite the horrendously wet weather. We had so many positive comments, making all that hard work worthwhile.

The Friday opening night was well attended and formally opened by our guest speaker Ruth Turner, a very interesting lady to listen to with over 30 years of expertise to share. Congratulations to our prize winners, judged by Wendy Blyth.

Best of Show : Brenda Bidgood

Best hand quilted by self : Chris Bates

We thank the traders who came along with their pop up shops, and our members who put together a well stocked trading table. Up on stage was a lovely retrospective display of the work of Lorraine Cody, our raffle quilt was admired by all and Lorna was the winner of our “30” challenge.

Most of all, we must thank the 400 people who came through the doors over the weekend. We had visitors from near and far and they are the reason our put in all the hard work!

Quilt In…. at last!

It has seemed like the longest wait, but at last we went ahead with our Quilt In on Saturday 5th March. After what has proven to be the “Scrappiest” couple of years ever it was a happy day. With the relaxation of mask rules… a slightly cooler day… and an opportunity to get back to being at an event we all so much enjoy, everyone was in excellent spirits. The room was positively abuzz!

Maree St Clair Quilts attended with their pop up shop which is always popular. Maree was also our guest speaker, sharing with us her collection of antique quilts. Very inspiring for scrap quilt enthusiasts. Maree… have you noticed that you tend to favour stars?!

We had Figtree Hollow selling some lovely homewares and delicious smelling self care goodies and Made in a Pleasance selling beautifully crafted vintage inspired cards. Margaret Mew came along to do signings of her latest book and brought with her some quilts for Show and Tell and patterns and templates for sale.

The Goldfields Quilters trading table had a good variety for sale and was busy all day. Well done members!

There were some fabulous raffle prizes on offer and the plenty of tickets were sold. Sue G did a great job as raffle caller. Love the shoes Sue!

We played a round of Bingo hosted by Sue S. It was the only time the whole day that the buzz stopped and heads were bowed in concentration. The guessing game was won by Marg B who took away the lovely jar of “scrap wraps”. The challenge for the day was a “scrappy placemat” and Maree chose the winner. As she was describing which one she had chosen, Christine was walking past the pinboard where the placemats were displayed so she stopped to bring the winning one up to the front of the stage. She seemed a little disbelieving and the reason soon became clear. It was her own contribution that she sheepishly handed up to Maree. So funny.

A bit more inspiration came in the way of Show and Tell by both members and guests. Great to see.

The ladies helping out in the kitchen worked so hard getting together a delicious morning tea and lunch. A very enjoyable day was had by all.

Quilt In postponed to 5th March 2022

We are sure this won’t come as a surprise! Our Quilt In, which should have been on 18th September, has been postponed to 5th March 2022. Everyone who has paid to attend will be transferred to the new date unless they request their money back (please contact us by email or using the “Contact Us” tab on the blog).

Maree St Clair will still be our guest speaker and it’s looking promising for our other traders to be there as planned.

PLEASE NOTE : We are currently fully booked but are taking a waiting list as it’s likely there will be some who cannot attend on the date in March. Do get in touch and put your name on the waiting list.

An added bonus will be Margaret Mew who will come along and do some book signings.

Have you seen her latest book… Quilts from La Gare and other Mewsings?

Daylesford retreat week

What’s not to love about a week of sewing at Daylesford retreat with friends? Eight Goldfields Quilters spent a week at 320 Create at Daylesford. What a fantastic week we had!

We took time off from our normal lives to enjoy a week of sharing laughs and funny stories, learning from one another, and the opportunity to sew to our hearts content. We had our own masseur to ease away our aches and pains and time to enjoy a little retail therapy. We appreciated tasty, easy meals, in comfortable, well designed and equipped accommodation in a very attractive setting, just 40 minutes from home.

Thanks so much to all involved. It really has been a treat!
