- "Your sons by Prince Daemon will also be given places of high honor at court: Aegon the Younger as the king's squire, Viserys as his cupbearer."
- ―Otto Hightower
Prince Aegon Targaryen,[d] called Aegon the Younger to distinguish him from Aegon II, is a prince of the Targaryen dynasty. He is bonded to the dragon Stormcloud.
Biography[]
Background[]
Aegon is the third child and first son of Daemon Targaryen, and fourth child of Rhaenyra Targaryen. He is presently fourth-in-line in the succession to the Iron Throne, behind his three half-brothers from her first marriage to Laenor Velaryon: Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon, though this position is disputed by the Greens.
House of the Dragon: Season 1[]
When Aegon is four, he travels with his family to King's Landing to defend the succession rights of his half-brother Lucerys to Driftmark. He and his younger brother Viserys are introduced to their grandfather/uncle, the ailing King Viserys I Targaryen.[1]
After his uncle Aegon II usurps the throne, his Hand, Ser Otto Hightower, delivers terms to Rhaenyra, which include Aegon the Younger having a high place at court as the King's squire. Daemon, and later Rhaenyra, furiously reject this.[2]
House of the Dragon: Season 2[]
Rhaenyra plays with him and Viserys in her chambers. Following the attempted assassination on her, she decides to sends him, Viserys, Joffrey and Rhaena to the Eyrie.[4]
At the castle of Lady Jeyne Arryn, Aegon play with toys with his little brother while his baby dragon Stormcloud watches them. Lady Jeyne arrives to tell Rhaena that Reggio Haratis has agreed to take her, and her siblings, and that the Gay Abandon will take them there.[5]
Aegon leaves the Eyrie with Viserys and Joffrey.[6]

1 Jaehaerys had thirteen children in all. For simplicity, only the direct ancestors of future generations are on this family tree and they are not in the exact order of birth. The thirteen children in correct order are: Aegon, Daenerys, Aemon, Baelon, Alyssa, Maegelle, Vaegon, Daella, Saera, Viserra, Gaemon, Valerion, and Gael.
2 Due to the nature of their respective births and deaths, Baelon Targaryen, son of Viserys and Aemma, and Visenya Targaryen, daughter of Rhaenyra and Daemon, are not included on this family tree.
3 While Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey are officially Laenor's, he and Rhaenyra never had any biological issue. Their three sons were in fact fathered by Harwin Strong.
Behind the scenes[]
Four-year-old Aegon is portrayed by twin child actors Jake and Rory Heard.[7]
In the books[]
In Fire & Blood, Aegon was born in 120 AC at Dragonstone. He had dark purple eyes and pale silver hair. Queen Alicent took offense to his name, considering that she already had a son named Aegon, and believed that the boy's name was a slight intended by Rhaenyra to imply that her own son was more deserving of the Conqueror's name than Alicent's. Rhaenyra's son was called "Aegon the Younger" to differentiate him from his half-uncle, who began to be called "Aegon the Elder."

Notes[]
- ↑ Aegon Targaryen is stated to be 4 years old in the script for "The Lord of the Tides," which takes place in 132 AC; therefore, he was born in 128 AC.
- ↑ In "A Son for a Son," Daemon Targaryen and Otto Hightower mention that days have passed since Viserys Targaryen and Lucerys Velaryon's deaths. Unlike the first season, no major time jumps are expected; therefore, House of the Dragon: Season 2 takes place in 132 AC.
