Gravity is a Gameplay Mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Methods of altering a player's gravity were first introduced in Season 4, with the introduction of Hop Rocks.
Description[]
Gravity is the measurement of how fast a player or object will fall down to the ground. Gravity can be manipulated in Battle Royale via several methods. Oftentimes when a player's gravity is affected, they do not take fall damage, and will instead hit the ground with no damage taken, no matter the speed.
Gameplay[]
Gravity can be affected in various ways in game, both by settings for starting a match, and by items. Battle Lab has three options for gravity. These are Earth (Standard), Moon (Lower) and Asteriod (Very Low). Players will still take fall damage on the latter two, but they must fall from a very high height.
The following items and mechanics will alter the player's gravity
Item Name | Icon | Category | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Shockwave Grenade | Utility | Creates a Shockwave which negates fall damage and increases player movement speed until they hit the ground. | |
Mechanical Shockwave Bow | Bow | ||
Shockwave Launcher | Explosive Weapon | ||
Kit's Shockwave Launcher | Explosive Weapon | ||
Hop Rock Dualies | Pistol | When used, these items will lower the player's gravity for a short time, increasing their jump height and negating fall damage. | |
Hop Rocks | Foraged Item | ||
Hop Flopper | Fish | ||
Hop Drops | Foraged Item | ||
Runestone | Utility | ||
Bouncy Egg | Foraged Item | ||
Inflate-A-Bull | Uncategorized | Forms an inflatable bull around the player that will bounce around the environment with increased momentum. Negates fall damage. | |
Venom Symbiote | Uncategorized | Players gain increased jump height when this item is in their inventory. This does not negate fall damage. | |
Carnage Symbiote | Uncategorized | ||
Shadow Flopper | Fish | Players transform into shadow form which grants increased momentum and invulnerability to fall damage. | |
Shadow Stones | Foraged Item | ||
Glitched | Foraged Item | Glitched can mimic the effects of Shadow Stones or Hop Rocks. | |
Shadow Bomb | Utility | Players turn into a shadow, which has decreased gravity. | |
Balloons | Utility | Holding 1 or 2 balloons allows the player to low their gravity, and jump higher. This can negate fall damage if done correctly. | |
Alien Nanites | Utility | Alien Nanites create a strange anti-gravity environment, where players will be frozen in the air if they do not continue to press the Jump Button. | |
Bouncer | Trap | Jumping on a Bouncer lowers the player's gravity and negates fall damage. | |
Crash Pad | Utility | Deploys a trampoline which bounces off players with a low-gravity effect. | |
Iron Man's Repulsor Gauntlets | Power | Enables the player to hover to the ground slowly. This does not negate fall damage unless done near the ground. | |
Iron Man's Repulsors | Power | ||
Alien Parasites | Wildlife | Increases speed and jump height but doesn't provide invincibility to fall damage. |
Other methods:[]
- Players activating a Duel with a Character cause a Shockwave effect which lowers their gravity.
- Areas mimicking an Alien Nanite (Such as Holly Hatchery) also share the same effect as it.
- Destroying a Seed Pod to release Reality Seeds grants a low gravity effect.
Trivia[]
- Although some weaponry, such as the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle fires bullets which appear to be affected by gravity, changing the gravity of the game mode via Battle Lab or Creative will not change the trajectory of said projectiles.
