Event : Love and Hate in Wartime: Part 1[]

  • Ashe: So is it true, Catherine? About you and my brother?
  • Catherine: Yes, it's true. But are you sure you want to talk about this before your scouting mission?
  • Ashe: I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't.
  • Catherine: In that case, yes. I chose to hold to what I believed in, which meant he had to die. If you can't forgive me for it, then I stand ready for your challenge.
  • Ashe: I have no right to judge you. I also betrayed people I cared about for my beliefs— and in some cases even led them to their deaths.
  • Catherine: Fair enough. Now get going— and make sure you keep your emotions in check while on duty.
  • Ashe: Yes, ma'am.

(Scene change.)

  • Yuri: Hey there, slowpoke. I think this is everyone who's available at the moment. Oh, and I've got some bad news— looks like Imperial troops have surrounded Ashe's scouting unit.
  • Shez: Sounds like they got wise to our plan.
  • Yuri: Yep. Either Ashe slipped up, or we've got a spy in our midst. Still, they sent a pretty impressive force if they're just looking to take out one little scout party.
  • Catherine: That's why we think their true aim lies elsewhere.
    • Choice 1: Claim they're after Catherine.
      • Shez: Maybe they see this as their chance to draw out the infamous Thunder Catherine.
      • Catherine: I don't think so. They've got no reason to think I'd come running to Ashe's rescue.
      • Yuri: I think you've got it backwards. Most likely, they're just coming after Ashe.
    • Choice 2: Claim they're after Ashe.
      • Shez: They might be coming after Ashe himself, thoiugh I don't have the slightest idea why. But it's the only thing I can think of.
      • Yuri: I agree. Ashe is the target here.
    • Choice 3: Claim they're after the main force.
      • Shez: Maybe they're hoping to take out Ashe before moving on to our main force.
      • Catherine: Doubtful. While their force is larger than necessary for a single scouting unit, it's nowhere near large enough for a full-on assault.
      • Yuri: Plus, they've already lost the element of surprise. No, I think they're coming after Ashe.
  • Yuri: Apparently, some of the enemy soldiers were flying the flag of House Gaspard.
    • Choice 1: Ask about House Gaspard.
      • Shez: That's where Ashe is from, right? The house of Lord Lonato?
      • Catherine: Yes. But with Lord Lonato dead, it's now all but wiped out. And Ashe won't be especially popular with anyone who managed to escape the culling.
    • Choice 2: Express concern for Ashe.
      • Shez: I'm worried about Ashe. What's left of House Gaspard probably thinks him a traitor.
      • Yuri: Yeah, he won't be winning any popularity contests with that band any time soon.
  • Yuri: You could be the most virtuous, upstanding knight in the land, and still be the embodiment of evil to whoever is on the other side.
  • Shez: Well, that's a fun thought.
  • Yuri: We don't know much about the enemy, but there don't seem to be any generals of note among them. So here's the plan. We're all going to rush in there, grab Ashe, and hightail it back out. Good? Good.
  • Catherine: I'll ready my knights. You two make sure you're prepared, too. If we aren't quick about this, we're all going to end up very dead.

(Catherine leaves.)

  • Shez: Must be hard for Ashe to fight against what remains of his old house.
  • Yuri: If he's not ready to have people hate him, he should get out of the killing business. When you're alive and looking to stay that way, your interests inevitably butt up against someone else's. And look, Ashe is clearly in a tough spot. But he's no fool, and he's come too far to lay down his life now. I mean, he killed his own father figure in the name of "justice." It'll take more than this to shake him.
  • Shez: You've got a lot of confidence in him.
  • Yuri: Hey, the guy came from nothing, just like me. I can't help but root for him.

Battle[]

(At the start of battle.)
  • Yuri: Hm... We need to secure an escape route, but I think we should deal with Ashe first.
  • Catherine: Right, who knows how much longer he can hold out. We need to break through the troops surrounding him as soon as possible.

Main Mission Start: Defeat the enemies surrounding the stronghold and rescue Ashe!
Report! Don't let Ashe be routed!
Report! [Character] defeated the Gaspard Militia!

  • Gaspard Militia: If he'd never adopted this filthy wretch of a child, Lord Lonato would still draw breath!
  • Ashe: I recognize all of these faces... No doubt they despise me for betraying Lonato.

Warning! The Rebel Army activated the catapults!

  • Ashe: Catapults! Watch out, everyone!

Side Mission Start: Seize the strongholds to stop the catapults!
Side Mission Successful: Disabled all the catapults!

  • Catherine: That does it for the catapults. Now lets hurry and help Ashe before it's too late.
  • Catherine: The things I do for this kid... I see why his brother always looked out for him. Ashe! I'm coming to rescue you, so don't you dare die before I get there!
  • Ashe: Huh? Was that Catherine? What do I do?

Report! The Kingdom Army opened the gates to the WIndmill Village Ruins!
Main Mission Successful! Aided Ashe!

  • Shez: Glad you're OK, Ashe. Now c'mon, let's haul ourselves out of here!
  • Ashe: I'm sorry for the trouble, really...

Report! Ashe is now playable!
Warning! The Rebel Army closed the gates to cut off the route!

  • Yuri: Nope. Not getting through here. These folks are clearly trying to herd us in a certain direction, but I don't see another choice.
  • Catherine: Don't worry, kid. No trap in all of Fódlan can hope to hold us!

Main Mission Start! Reach the evacuation point with Ashe!
Report! Victory conditions have changed!

  • Ashe: Lonato would still be alive if I had just remained loyal and fought beside him...
(Upon exiting the Village Ruins Path.)

Warning! The Rebel Army deployed reinforcements!
Warning! The Rebel Army closed the gates to cut off the route!

  • Yuri: Oh, look. It's a trap. I'm so surprised. C'mon, let's kill these guys and get outta here.

Main Mission Start! Seize the Fields Path to secure an escape route!

  • Gaspard Militia: Lord Lonato looks down on you with scorn, you ungrateful peasant!
  • Yuri: And what, Ashe was supposed to show his gratitude by dying alongside the guy? C'mon. Ashe. You did what you did because you thought it was right, so don't give in now.
  • Ashe: Yeah...
(Upon capturing the stronghold.)
  • Gaspard Militia: Why you little...
  • Ashe: I'm sorry, but I did what I thought was right.

Main Mission Successful! Seized the Fields Path!
Report! Some of the gates to the Fields Path opened!

  • Catherine: Let's keep moving! Well, a different way, because there's no getting through here.

Report! The evacuation point changed!
Warning! The Rebel Army opened the gates to deploy reinforcements!

  • Shez: Lots of enemies this way, too. Guess we've just gotta push through 'em.
  • Catherine: We've no other choice. Keep up, Ashe!
  • Ashe: Yes, ma'am!

Main Mission Start! Seize the Plains Road to secure an escape route!

  • Ashe: I get it now. Lonato would've wanted me to stay true to myself.
  • Yuri: Well, well. Someone finally snapped out of it. You're looking good, Ashe— I mean, no match for me, but who is?

Main Mission Successful! Seized the Plains Road!
Report! Seized the Plains Road! The stronghold gates opened!

  • Catherine: Our escape route's nearby! All that's left is to take it out of here!
  • Ashe: Let others say what they will— I've chosen my path!
  • Yuri: OK, that was a lot more work than they're paying me for.
  • Catherine: Don't go relaxing just yet— that tricky commander of theirs is still out there.
(Pallardó Davino appears.)
  • Pallardó: Oh dear. It appears my friends from Gaspard weren't up to the task.

Warning! Pallardó appeared!

  • Catherine: He must be the one who incited this whole rebellion. He'll pay for that with his life!

Main Mission Changed! Defeat Pallardó!
Report! Victory conditions have changed!

  • Pallardó: Me? No, no! I am but a humble merchant! Pray do not concern yourselves with me.
(When Yuri engages Pallardó.)
  • Pallardó:Hmm... You're rather famous, aren't you? Yes, I imagine you'd fetch a tidy sum.
  • Yuri: You? Capture me? Not likely.
(Pallardó's reinforcements defeated.)
  • Pallardó: And after I sold them all those weapons, too... Bah! What a useless bunch.
(Pallardó nearly defeated.)
  • Ashe: You were just using House Gaspard! Admit it!
(Pallardó defeated.)
  • Pallardó: Why does nothing ever go as planned...

Main Mission Successful! Defeated Pallardó!

  • Yuri: And that's that. Come on, Ashe. Let's go.
  • Ashe: Thank you, everyone.

Event : Love and Hate in Wartime: Part 2[]

  • Shez: Looks like we're safe. Though I have to say, we cut that way closer than I'm comfortable with.
  • Yuri: You're telling me. I could've done without that wretched merchant riling up what was left of Gaspard. I'm gonna need hazard pay for that one. Remind me to send Dimitri an invoice later.
  • Ashe: Don't trouble His Majesty with such things!
  • Yuri: Easy there, friend. I'm just blowing off some steam. Don't go getting your honor in a twist.
  • Ashe: Well, I am a knight, after all. Though after fighting those people from House Gaspard, I wonder if I'm even worthy of the station.
  • Yuri: Our entire job is killing people— it's what we do from sunup to sundown. You really think that line of work won't make you an enemy or three?
  • Ashe: Yes, you're right— and if I needed it, this was certainly a stark reminder. Lonato once told me to hold true to my beliefs. So I'll keep trusting my own sense of justice and walk the path I've chosen. There's no turning back now.
    • Choice 1: Encourage him with a smile.
      • Shez: Now there's the Ashe I know and love.
    • Choice 2: Encourage him seriously.
      • Shez: I never had much of a handle on what justice means— or evil, for that matter. But when I see that look on your face, it makes me want to root for you all the more.
  • Ashe: Thank you, friend. And thanks to you as well, Catherine.
  • Catherine: I could never abandon an ally in need. Besides, I owe it to Christophe to keep you alive.
    • Choice 1: Ask her who Christophe is.
      • Shez: So I probably should have asked this already, but who is Christophe?
      • Catherine: Ashe's adoptive older brother, and Lord Lonato's true son. We were classmates at the academy... and close friends. But when he got swept up in a conspiratorial plot, I had no choice but to put him to the sword.
    • Choice 2: Ask her about her connection to Lonato.
      • Shez: So I probably should have asked before, but what kinda connection do you have with Lonato?
      • Catherine: I'm responsible for the death of his son, Christophe— Ashe's adoptive older brother. In response, Lonato pinned a baseless crime on me, making it impossible for me to ever return home. In a way, I suppose I should thank him. If not for that, I never would've taken up with Lady Rhea.
      • Yuri: You really like Rhea, don't you? I actually respect that, and I don't respect much of anything.
      • Catherine: I'd prefer if you respected Lady Rhea rather than me. She truly is wonderful.
  • Shez: This all sounds very... complicated.
  • Catherine: Oh, it is. But you can't escape your past. No one can. You, Ashe, Yuri... We all have our baggage.
  • Yuri: Hmph.
  • Ashe: Well, what say we head back? I'm sure everyone is waiting for us.
  • Catherine: Good idea. The Kingdom will need to decide how to deal with House Gaspard.
  • Ashe: I hope they can find some measure of peace. Regardless, I intend to help them however I can.
  • Yuri: Must you? Whenever you do your best, it tends to make additional work for the rest of us.
  • Ashe: Seriously, Yuri? Can't you just agree with me for once?

(Yuri and Ashe leave.)

  • Catherine: Heh.
  • Shez: What's wrong, Catherine?
  • Catherine: Oh, nothing. Just thinking about the past, is all.
