As Cecil is still a Dark Knight at this point, he always deals 1 HP damage to Zombies, except for critical hits, or unless the party is over-leveled. Tellah's Fire and Cura magic works well against them, as they are undead. Rydia does not have Fire at this point, but she does have the Cure spell, which damages the undead, although it is much weaker than Fire.
Cecil can deal more than 1 HP of damage to them while in Dark Knight form by using the Deathbringer sword, which is not imbued with the element of Darkness.

A zombie is an animated corpse resurrected by mystical means, such as necromancy. Since the late 19th century, zombies have acquired popularity in North American and European folklore.
