Neat.

Afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Nothing like a workout to build up one's appetite for dinner (tonight: steak with potato salad). But before then, writing! It's time for Apoqliphoth's walkthrough for Final Fantasy IX.

Lindblum[]

Maybe all you need is some company, eh?

Zidane, basically asking Garnet if she wants to have sex.

Instead of entering the lift, take the right stairs. Enter the door at the top of the stairs in the next room. In this room, you'll find a Glass Armlet and an Ether. There's also a Moogle. Mogki. We have a letter for him, so deliver that. Read the letter we just delivered again to receive a letter to Atla.

Afterwards, head back down and into the lift. There's a fairly long scene, where Steiner punches Regent Cid. It makes sense in context; Cid's been turned into a oglop, which Steiner hates.

Zidane heads into town for a more down-to-earth lunch. Seems Zidane knows the barkeep, whose name is...Bobo. Yeah. That's a name. He hits on the waitress (of course...), before getting heckled by the woman in red. You can tell she's going to be playable, as we can name her.

Character Introduction: Freya Crescent
FFIX CG Render Freya

"To be forgotten is worse than death."

Age: 21
Height: 6'1"
Class: Dragoon
Weapon: Spear
Trance: Super Jump

She's a tough-talking Burmecian with a sad past. She's looking for her boyfriend. Considering that she's five years older than Zidane, she was socialising with a thirteen-year-old when she was eighteen. And if you pay attention to how she speaks to Zidane, he was apparently a bit of a womaniser even then. Not at all weird. Then again, I suppose she's a tall rat-woman and he's a monkey-person, so the age gap isn't the strangest part.

She's fairly decent in battle, acting as a tertiary physical fighter. She learns all manner of weird Dragoon skills, which is cool, but her trance just upgrades her Jump ability. She doesn't gain anything new, which is a bit lame.

Bit skimpy for a shopping centre?

They share a bit of banter, before the scene shifts back to Garnet and Cid. Eventually, we're back in control of Zidane. Time for a treasure hunt! Talk to the Moogle next door who gives you a letter from Ruby. Head downstairs.

Lindblum: Inn[]

  • Check the lower left side of the inn lobby to find 163 Gil.

Leave the inn and head north.

Lindblum: Shopping Area[]

  • Enter the house to your north and raid the guy's chests for Hi-Potion and Echo Screen.

Take the path to the left of the house.

Lindblum: Church Street[]

  • Check around the tree near the church for a Tent.

Enter the church.

Lindblum: Church[]

  • Climb the ladder and grab the Leather Plate.

Did we just rob a church? I think we did. Leave and head back to the main shopping area and head right.

Lindblum: Square[]

Enter the weapon shop (it's in the northeast), and buy the following items:

- Dagger x1
- Mage Masher x1
In the northwest of this area is the Synthesist Shop. There's a scene with the shopkeeper, Torres (probably not the footballer).

Lindblum: Synthesist[]

  • Grab the Silver Gloves from the table. Ooh, free sample.

While you're here, synthesise the following items:

- Butterfly Sword x1
- The Ogre x1
- Yellow Scarf x1

Head back to the main street and enter the station (opposite the inn) for an ATE. Take the aircab to the Industrial District.

Lindblum: Industrial District[]

Lindblum Industrial District

'Industry'.

  • When you emerge outside, check south of the cat for a Leather Wrist.

Enter the house at the far north end.

  • Open the chests for a Mimic Card and a Steepled Hat.

Back to the aircab, this time heading for the Theatre District.

  • Outside, check the greenery to the south for 127 Gil.
  • Enter the house and take the Ore.

Take the west path and head south, then into the building. There's a scene with an ATE. Now raid the treasure.

  • You'll find 282 Gil, 68 Gil and 97 Gil, as well as a Mini-Burmecia up the ladder.

Head south and talk to the fangirls. Follow Moogle!Lowell back to the artist's house where we found the Ore. He gives you an Autograph. You can also find a Moogle Suit in here, but it doesn't do anything other than increase your Treasure Hunter rank.

Take the aircab to Lindblum Castle. Head back to the bedroom where the Save Moogle is. Turns out Garnet's gone walkies. Attempt to enter the lift -- we need a disguise. Go back right and talk to the snoozing guard on the bottom floor. Zidane pulls a Locke and steals his outfit. Now hustle onto that lift and up to the top floor. Take a left past Cid's room and up the spiral staircase.

When you're looking through the binoculars, check out every point of interest. Zidane tries on some moves, but forgets it was the waitress he tried the airship line on earlier, so it backfires fairly spectacularly.

Afterwards, the hunt begins. Apparently without the organisers being aware of it. Hmm. Well, that can't possibly end badly. Head to the aircab, which takes you automatically to the Theatre District. Let the hunt begin!

Festival of the Hunt[]

Festival-of-the-Hunt-Release-FFIX

"This was poorly planned!"

  • From the aircab station, take out the Mu.
  • There's a Trick Sparrow here too.
  • Head downstairs to fight another Trick Sparrow.
  • There's a Fang outside the theatre.

Take the aircab to the Industrial District.

  • Fight the Fang running around the fountain.
  • A Mu will run down the north stairs at you.
  • Head north to find another Mu at the north end.
  • Attempt to enter the pub to fight another Mu.

Fly to the Business District.

  • Head north to find a Trick Sparrow.
  • North is a Mu.
  • In the next area is a Fang.
  • Take the left path to find a Mu and a Trick Sparrow outside the church.

Head south.

  • Intercept the Fang chasing Vivi.

Once there's less than 4:00 on the clock, head to the shopping area. The large beast from earlier is there.

  • Mythril Gloves
  • Needle Fork

The challenge here is nicking his stuff before time runs out. If you want a cash prize, finish it with Zidane, which is much easier considering you have a synthesised weapon in hand. I'd recommend letting Freya win though, as her prize becomes your prize, and it's much better. Just heal up so you don't die from Heave and Thundara. Use Soul Blade with The Ogre equipped to inflict Darkness on it to negate problem 1.

Afterwards, assuming you let Freya win, you receive Coral Ring and Master Hunter. A Burmecian soldier walks in, injured, and dies in front of you. Eesh. Seems that Alexandria may have just laid siege to Burmecia, Freya's home. Zidane decides to head that way, but doesn't want to take Garnet along. Seems his desire for her not to get killed > his desire to get into her knickers.

LindblumCastleTelescope2Clear

Anwyay, the party celebrates the conclusion of the Festival of the Hunt (bit of a mood shift, but I'll allow it). Seems Garnet has a cunning bone in there, as she's spiked the food with sleeping weed. Touché, princess.

After the scene, you have a choice. Head down to the Mid Level if you want to go shopping for Freya and Vivi (I'd recommend synthesising them some stuff). If you want to continue with your quest, head down the Base Level. Here, take the right train to the Serpent's Gate. To your north is a Wyerd Card. Now ride to the Dragon's Gate. Hidden to your north, on the right side, is a Tent. Check in with the Save Moogle, Moonte, who has a letter from Stiltzkin. There's also a merchant here. Head out to the world map.

Whew. That was pretty lengthy. I'll see you next time. We've got a little detour in which to indulge ourselves.
