Opinions of Various Games[]

Despite what everyone says about Final Fantasy II, it's not that bad. Although it went against my rpg instincts to use magic => become better at magic, it does require a strategic element of whether to work on brute force and possibly have magic go down, or vice versa. If you don't cheat, it's quite possibly the hardest in the series, between the delicate balancing act of stat growth and the effort required to raise said stats naturally. Some of the music is good, it just doesn't play for very long unless you go out of your way.

I loved Final Fantasy III. Unlike many games with a changeable job system, there's no pressure to master every single job in the game, since the only thing that carries over from job to job is HP growth. While it has enough flexibility to keep the player fooling around with it, it is not so much the player is paralyzed by the sheer number of possibilities before them. The music was awfully good too, even the NES version :)

Final Fantasy IV - Despite what everyone on the internet seems to say about FF4j, the hardest iteration of this game is DS. Never before have I had a character die at lvl. 70 in the final dungeon dungeon - many random encounters require specific tactics besides attack, cure, BAHAMUT!!!111 Instead, the DS version forces you to take advantage of things unique to that version, like the augments and the increased effectiveness of status attacks to survive.

Final Fantasy VII - Good story, the easiest game play ever. At least the mental torment of Cloud was interesting to watch - personally, I found it MUCH more touching than when Aeris died. Bitch.

Reason why FFVIII sucks #956719675245: The way they emulate the "black wizard can't wield Excalibur as well as a knight" thing: the more powerful spells you have (assuming they're junctioned, of course), the stronger/tougher/higher hp you will have as well. I dislike love stories in general as well, but at least they tried to do something different with the combat.

Final Fantasy XIII - I really, really hate this one. I find it strategic in the same way FFIII is: if you're unwilling to switch around your classes/paradigms often, then it's much, much harder. The plot isn't terribly interesting, much of the original music seems better suited as elevator music, the series staples were often remixed in such a way I found grating, and the character designs were downright silly at times (does Snow really need zippered gloves?)
