Tomb Raider is a long-running series of action adventure games originally developed by Core Design and currently published by Crystal Dynamics (formerly the Montréal unit of Square Enix). It debuted in 1996, and stars main character Lara Croft, globe-trotting artefact hunter raised in the British aristocracy. Players assume the role of Croft as she journeys to the world's strangest and most remote locations in search of bizarre treasures, dodging hazards and squaring off with competitors along the way.
The series' popularity over the past twenty-five-plus years has spawned a global phenomenon that includes more than a dozen games in five series iterations, three feature films, a Netflix anime series, and numerous tie-ins with other video game franchises, including the Final Fantasy series.
Connections to Final Fantasy[]
- Croft's outfit from Tomb Raider (2013) can be obtained as a DLC outfit in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
- Final Fantasy Brave Exvius hosted a collaboration event, "Tomb of the Silversmith", based on the franchise. Croft was a free unit on that event. This was in collaboration with Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.
- As of version 1.26, Final Fantasy XV hosts collab content based on Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
- In 2021, Lara Croft became a playable unit in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius as part of a Tomb Raider collaboration event. Croft is also depicted on a Vision Card. In a limited time event battle, players could also face series antagonist Natla—who has a Final Fantasy exclusive redesign—in a level inspired by the Atlantis level from Tomb Raider (1996) and Tomb Raider: Anniversary. This crossover was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.
