The Silent Partners[]
Journal[]
- Hereward has offered you a rudimentary explanation of leatherworking, and the respect for the elementals it entails. There is life within the things crafted by the hands of man, and that life must be cared for. To that end, Atelier Fen-Yll oversees the management of the Ebony Stalls, a cluster of shops that employ a number of craftsmen and women specializing in repairs. As your first task, you are to visit the Ebony Stalls and offer your services to Lalatta, your new mentor.
- You arrive at the Ebony Stalls to find an adorable little Lalafell leatherworker surrounded by a crowd of agitated lancers. What series of events could have led to this distressing sight? Speak to Lalatta after the lancers have gone, and see what business brought them.
- Lalatta relates to you how the lancers came and purchased a batch of new leather armor, claiming that they had no time to wait on Lalatta's slow repairs. Despondent, she finds comfort in the words of the nearby merchant Theldry, who convinces her to make the repairs and deliver the armor to the Wood Wailers nonetheless. Aid Lalatta in her effort by seeing to the suit of Damaged Wailer Armor she has entrusted to you. You will require a buffalo leather strap and a buffalo leather spetch to make the repairs.
- You have finished the task at hand, and are now in possession of a suit of Repaired Wailer Armor. Deliver it to Lalatta forthwith.
- You find that Lalatta has failed miserably at her own repairs. As she runs off sobbing, Theldry suggests that you take the tattered leather remains left in her teary-eyed wake and craft altogether new armor. Surely some kind soul at Atelier Fen-Yll can advise you on how to go about doing so...
- Gruff Hereward has taken the time to tell you that bringing the scraps you have back to life will require a good deal more of the same type of leather. Perhaps some of the other leatherworkers might know where you can find the materials you need. After gathering enough leather scraps and successfully crafting the armor, return once more to Hereward.
- You show the finished product of your restorative efforts to Hereward. Unimpressed, he speaks about the importance of armor quality, given that those who wear it in battle are entrusting it with their lives. To test the wearability of your armor, he orders you to don it yourself and make a quick trip to the chocobo stables and back.
- The armor you crafted has proven to be of a high enough caliber for the Wood Wailers. Deliver it to the Wood Wailers in the forest hamlet of Quarrymill to the south.
- The Wood Wailer on watch, Gylbart, gladly receives your delivery. He assures you that once the Lancers' Guild approves payment, he will deliver it to the Leatherworkers' Guild himself. Return to Atelier Fen-Yll and speak with Hereward.
Designer Imposters[]
Journal[]
- As part of your continued training, Hereward has explained a bit about the drawbacks of maintaining an immensely popular brand. Recently, mountain brigands have learned the value of Fen-Yll wares, and merchants and traders bearing the guild's goods are often ambushed on the northern roads, and their cargo stolen. To prevent this, the guild has decided to test a practice of shipping items individually rather than in bulk. Take the leather chocobo saddle entrusted to you and travel to the hamlet of Owl's Nest in Coerthas.
- As you near Owl's Nest, you are suddenly ambushed from behind by a lone bandit. Just as you are to be parted with either your life or your leather chocobo saddle, or both, Lalatta appears and renders the fiend unconscious with a single blow. Journey the rest of the way to Owl's Nest, and deliver the leather chocobo saddle to the Knights of Ishgard.
- You see the leather chocobo saddle to the hands of Ser Yuhelmeric himself. He informs you that the Knights of Ishgard are doing all in their power to put an end to the banditry in the region. Perhaps if you hurry, you can still find Lalatta where you last saw her on the path to Owl's Nest...
- Her voice rife with distress and urgency, Lalatta has contacted you via the guild linkpearl concerning a matter of life and death! She has asked you to craft a pair of Fen-Yll signature shoes. Doing so will require a circle of wolf leather, a wolf leather strap, and a brass buckle. Bring the bag to her at Clearwater Lake as soon as possible.
- You arrive at Clearwater Lake to find Lalatta and another leatherworker surrounded by a band of brigands. You learn that the outlaws have kidnapped them and are holding them hostage for a ransom of Fen-Yll goods. The leader of the group, Vielle, doubts the authenticity of the pair of Fen-Yll signature shoes you have brought. Parley with her to convince her of your talents.
- You succeeded in your parley with the bandit leader, Vielle. As a result, she has now decided to abduct you to begin a Fen-Yll counterfeiting operation she has planned. Just as things are at their bleakest, the Knights of Ishgard come charging in on chocoboback, driving the bandits off and saving the day. Return to Atelier Fen-Yll and speak to Hereward to receive your reward.
Head of the Class[]
Journal[]
- Arriving at Atelier Fen-Yll, you find a number of novices and newly joined adventurers such as yourself gathered together, all students of Lalatta's. Hereward has asked that you wait with them until your mentor arrives. Speak to the others and learn what you can of what might be happening.
- Speaking to the other pupils, you learn that you have all been summoned as part of the guild's regular evaluations. The news creates a stir, as it is such evaluations which determine rank amongst the leatherworkers. Lalatta arrives and orders you all to repair the damaged items which have been left at Lifemend Stump. Hurry there before all of the items are taken!
- You arrive at Lifemend Stump only to find another of the pupils in an outrage. It seems that one of the more competitively natured of the novices has already made off with all of the damaged items. Return to Atelier Fen-Yll and discover exactly what is going on.
- Parley with the novice who made off with all of the damaged items. If you succeed, you may be able to secure an item to repair for your evaluation.
- You successfully parleyed with the overambitious novice, and have received a damaged item to repair. Ask the more experienced leatherworkers around the guild how to best go about doing so.
- Maddeline has suggested that you engage in some preparatory synthesis to hone your skills before repairing a pair of damaged Fen-Yll boots. Speak to her again after creating five of the item she has asked for.
- Maddeline was kind enough to tell you that you will require a circle of boar leather to repair the pair of damaged Fen-Yll boots. Once you are finished, take the restored pair of vintage Fen-Yll boots to Hereward for inspection.
- Show the item you have repaired to Hereward for an appraisal of your work.
- As Hereward is inspecting the quality of your work, one of the other novices brings in a mysterious item to repair... Lalatta starts upon seeing it, and orders all to step away. She tells you that it is a part from one of the Garlean Empire's juggernauts, and that attempting to work on it without understanding the technology that created it would almost certainly end in disaster. She awards high evaluations for all but the novice who brought it into the guild, claiming her ignorance placed the lives of everyone at Fen-Yll in danger. Why has Lalatta suddenly grown so callous? Could there have been some event in her past?
- The Echo reveals to you a scene from Lalatta's past in which she brought a similar contraption of Garlean build to Atelier Fen-Yll. Though her intentions were as harmless as your fellow novice's, they resulted in tragedy, nonetheless. Reminded of her own act, Lalatta comes to forgive the pupil she had reprimanded. Speak to Hereward to collect your reward.
