Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Magic Power". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Shouldn't we make a single article and link relevent things to it like Intellect/spirit in relevent games? It saves space... 1stclasswarrior 21:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Article Name[]

Isn't the word "Magic" the most common for this stat?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 21:41, September 20, 2012 (UTC)
Maybe it wants to avoid the tag, although I don't see Magic (Stat) as a bad name.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 23:08, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, "Magic (Stat)" works best. So...who supports this idea?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 20:40, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

There's Magick Power in FFXII but that's what it always is in Ivalice games. I think Magic (Stat) is a good name, just lotta relinking...Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 00:02, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

So do we move it or not?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 16:44, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

"Magic Power" is a more explanatory name... just sayin' 79.69.205.207 17:21, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

The term "Magic Power", for me at least, sounds not like a stat, but rather a story term. Like it could kinda get an article per FFVI where magic isn't natural like it was 1,000 years in the past and 'now' to be able to use magic is to be infused with the magic from the magicite, like the Gestahlian Empire does. It's a term with a similar sounding to sorceress power as in FFVIII magic is not a 'natural' phenomenon (not a human borns with the gift of magic). And "magic power" is not natural phenomenon to FFXIII universe as well, and only after the Day of Ragnarok and settling on Gran Pulse some people started to be able to use magic. Well, a lot of it is covered in the Magic (term)#Plot. I think this article name is more misleading than helping.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 19:36, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Bump. Plus, others stats if share names with something else has "(Stat)" in the name and besides it would be consistent with the stat articles' names.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 23:16, March 22, 2015 (UTC)

For the sake of article naming consistency, I'll bump this...—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 20:27, March 29, 2015 (UTC)

It's "Magick Power" in FFXII but that's the only one I know. I wouldn't mind this being renamed Magic (Stat).Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:39, March 29, 2015 (UTC)

Also, we do go with "the most recurring name" thing and "Magic" is the most common name for it in English releases. That FFXII "Magick Power" was mainly due to its Ivalice setting as far as I'm aware.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 20:48, March 29, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it should be Magic (Stat) since Magic is the most recent used name. Fenrir9 (talk) 23:41, April 5, 2015 (UTC)

Should we make a separate article for spell power?[]

Should we create a separate article for spell power (the power stat of individual spells)? It's used in several games including III, IV, V, VI and IX, and often used in the magic damage formula the same way that attack power is used in the attack damage formula. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:35, June 7, 2014 (UTC)

That stats is invisible to players, yeah? I think it could possibly have an article.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 21:02, June 7, 2014 (UTC)
Well, "Spell Power" just means a variable in the damage formula dependent on the ability used. Physical formulas have them too. Physical Limit Breaks use a spell power greater than the Attack command. It's how an enemy can have two physical attacks that deal different amounts of damage.
Fractional damage spells will have a spell power of 2, 50, or 128 (dependent on how the formula is written) for half-HP, or 4 or 25 or 64 for quarter-HP*(although probably not 128 and 64 since they'd probably use this same formula for insta-kill/revive attacks which would be impossible that way). Spell power can get vague. Is that not spell power? Or would we simply limit "spell power" to simply abilities that use the basic Magic formula?
I'm not saying this kind of thing doesn't need a page, though I am trying to illustrate it's not easy to define and can encompass different things. JBed (talk) 00:42, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

If you make an account it should be instant. The site considers you a reader rather than an editor otherwise, and prioritises speed over the latest version of page.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:12, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Ah so that is what it is. I was worried the page might be bugged or something for some users.
If that is the case, its alright for me so long as the other users are not hindered or affected, and are able to see the updates eventually. Don't really see any urgency in creating an account yet, and a little fearful of the responsibilities that follow or is expected of me if I do, especially after helping out translating news, updates and patch notes for a mobile game every single week for close to four years straight. Though this doesn't mean I will perform half-hearted job when my edit history is harder to trace. I'd hope I can safely say what a main character in an upcoming Kdrama will say "I don't half-*** operations. Never!"
Still, thank you very much for always taking time reading through all the comments from the chats and response to each of them accordingly. 202.190.7.130 10:27, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
