Real Name[]
It seems "Zulvan"'s name is actually "Nael Van Darnus". The "Into the Dark" quest description mentions that name:
"Nael Van Darnus, the infamous Legatus of the VIIth Legion"
This, of course, could just be a different Legatus...

Where did you guys get the name "Zulvan" in the first place? I want to confirm this source for myself.

- The name has circulated within the FFXIV community ever since the first video of his cutscene has been posted on youtube, but to be fair no one seems to be able to point out the exact 'source'. He was already well known as "Zulvan" when this article was created. In any case, at this point, it's probably safe to assume that it's either incorrect or simply no longer mentioned by any NPC (something that's pretty possible, NPC dialogue is changing quite frequently every patch). Also, two legatus names are really 'confirmed' at this point, Nael van Darnus and Gaius van Baelsar. Nael is the gunlance wielding legatus, so it's not him. Gaius....could be the right one, indeed. His legion is said to patrol Silvertear Falls, the exact target of Future's Perfect's objective. Still, better to off wait until his name is really confirmed before changing the article name if it's indeed wrong. DiamondEdge 03:34, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

Vader[]
An interesting bit of trivia might be that Zulvan comes across rather heavily as FF's newest, and closest Darth Vader. He's even gone so far as to quote the jedi. Like everything he says in that cinematic is what was said by Vader in Star Wars, except his line on "the cloying stench of shadow".
Zulvan[]
Perhaps his original name, Zulvan, was a mistranslation of Zurvan, the central deity of a branch of Zoroastrianism. Wouldn't be the first time they used a Zoroastrian figure, and it makes a bit more sense as to where the name came from. Wherever the name came from, that is...

Design inspiration[]
It doesn't bear mentioning anywhere that this guy looks almost exactly like Grahf from Xenogears? I'm not saying they stole the design (considering Square/Enix made both games, so obviously its an homage), but I can't be the only one who noticed this.

- Yes, I understand that we can't say its 'officially an homage' until we get word that it is, but it is pretty much objective that the two characters look almost EXACTLY ALIKE. Isn't this worth mentioning even as trivia 'Trivia'? This wiki is filled with entries in the Trivia section that are observations from gamers that don't have 'official' backing, but they're too obvious and almost objective to miss and write off. That's like saying its not worth mentioning that the Tifa poster hidden in Xenogears because Square never came out and said; 'Hey, that's Tifa on the poster in Solaris in Xenogears', but lo and behold, the poster of Tifa is mentioned in her article here.98.247.42.163 23:37, February 11, 2014 (UTC)

- Huh? Vader? Grahf from Xenogears has a similar shaped helmet with spikes on the side-- the spikes are slightly different, but both helmets have sort of like earring things descending from the spiky-side things on their helmets. - Grahf from Xenogears is an allusion to Darth Vader (is secretly main character's father turned evil but now is more like a robot), as are Judge Gabranth from FFXII and Golbez from FFIV.
