An amalgamation of mythril ore, given life after a seismic shift caused mako to pour from the earth. It uses the rocks in the cave to do away with intruders.

Enemy Intel

The Mythril Golem is a boss in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fought at in chapter 3, "Deeper into Darkness" in the Mythril Cavern in the Mythril Mines. It is the end boss of the chapter and is fought with Barret and Red XIII.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Mythril Golem is large and imposing, with strong attacks. It is weak to Lightning Lightning. The golem's body parts are separately targetable and will regenerate after a period of time after being defeated. Even though they have separate HP bars, the damage done to body parts will count toward the boss's overall HP. Completely taking out the Head can stagger the boss.

Strategy[]

Thunder spells hit the boss's elemental weakness. Barret and Red's Iron Defense synergy skill nullifies damage done by the boss's laser attacks.

Hard Mode[]

Barret and Red XIII are better conserving some MP until the end of the chapter. MP Absorption and Magic Focus both linked with separate Lightning materia on the same character with a Magic Plus should refund most of the MP cost of Thundaga, which is the best spell to use against Mythril Golem. Lightning is also good with Synergy and with Elemental on Red and Barret's weapons. There is also a lightning-elemental Enemy Skill that can be useful. Barrier with Magnify materia and another Barrier linked with Magic Efficiency can also come to use.

As Mythril Golem is slightly susceptible to sleep and stop statuses, the player can take advantage of this in Hard Mode where they have more abilities available. Barret can use Bonus Round to increase stagger damage. Iron Defense is still a good defensive maneuver to take. Red XIII's Watcher's Respite is a good MP-free heal.

Etymology[]

The word "mythril" or "mithril" is a metal found in many fantasy worlds. It was originally introduced by the fantasy writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, being present in his Middle-earth. It resembles silver but is stronger than steel, and much lighter in weight than either. The author first wrote of it in The Lord of the Rings, and it is retrospectively mentioned in the third, revised edition of The Hobbit in 1966. In the first 1937 edition, the mail shirt given to Bilbo is described as being made of "silvered steel". The name mithril comes from two words in Sindarin—mith, meaning "grey" or "mist", and ril meaning "glitter".

In Jewish and medieval folklore, a golem is an animated anthropomorphic being, magically created from inanimate matter. The word was used to mean an amorphous, unformed material (usually out of stone and clay) in Psalms and medieval writing. Adam, the first man created by God in the Holy Bible, was a golem since he was created from dust and sand. Having a golem servant was seen as the ultimate symbol of wisdom and holiness, with stories of prominent Rabbis owning golems throughout the middle ages. In modern times, the word golem, sometimes pronounced goilem in Yiddish, has come to mean one who is slow, clumsy, and generally dimwitted.
