Jed is a character from Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. He is a companion of Jack, whose goal is to kill Chaos.

History[]

Jed arrived in Cornelia alongside Jack and Ash, who revealed their Dark Crystals to each other. They set off to kill monsters to gain the trust of the King of Cornelia and let them enter the Chaos Shrine.

Eventually, it was revealed that Jed originated from the Lufenian realm of Paradise. Jed's true identity was that an agent of the "Strangers" program, which was dedicated to eradicating the darkness to create a utopia for the Lufenians while using Cornelia as an experimental dumping ground for excess darkness. Jed and his companions eventually learned of this truth and collaborated with Jack Garland to wrest Lufenia's control over Cornelia by training the Warriors of Light to vanquish the darkness. To that end, Jed became the water fiend Kraken.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Jed is a young man of medium height, light skin, and slim constitution. His eyes are aqua blue. His dark red hair is medium length and is swept to the right, with some bangs framing the right side of his face. Jed has pierced earlobes and wears metal nubs.

His initial attire, dubbed "Stranger's" clothes in-game, consist of a black long-sleeved jumper, light gray jogging pants, and black and white lightly worn sneakers. This outfit is decidedly "modern" compared to the clothes of other characters, and is Lufenian in origin.

Personality[]

Jed is a jokester and a blabbermouth. Like the rest of his companions, he holds a strong bond and appreciation with his party. As the story progresses, he reveals a bit of insecurity in his abilities and position in his power compared to Jack. He is kind, and cheerful. Sometimes he can come off as cowardly but he is still willing to put himself into dangerous situations despite his worries, proving himself as innately brave. Jed is often the butt of the joke within his group's dynamics. Jed is unassertive at times, especially in regards to trying to voice his thoughts, options, concerns, or ideas.

Jed suffers from astraphobia (fear of lightning).

Etymology[]

Jed is a masculine given name or nickname, usually of Jedediah. There are also instances, albeit rare, of Jed being used as a female given name.

Jedediah (Hebrew: יְדִידְיָה) or Jedidiah is a Hebrew male given name, which is derived from the name Yedidyah, meaning "beloved of Jah". In the Hebrew Bible, Jedidiah (Jeddedi in Brenton's Septuagint Translation) was the second or "blessing" name given by God through the prophet Nathan in infancy to Solomon, second son of King David and Bathsheba.
