Attack while charging, inflicting multiple hits and forcing the enemy back. Can be used in midair.

Description

Ignition is one of Ifrit's Eikonic Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI that the player can initially assign to Clive's fire loadout, sharing the ability pool with the Phoenix's Eikonic Abilities. Clive will launch himself into a forward charge, dealing continuous damage and pushing small enemies along, who get stunlocked.

Obtained[]

Clive gains access to Ifrit's powers as part of the story, during "The Meaning of Life", usable in his loadout after the events at the Phoenix Gate apodytery. Ignition can then be learned for his fire loadout by spending 120 AP in the Abilities menu.

Mechanics[]

Clive can use Ignition in battle whenever it is equipped to his current loadout. He can have two Eikonic Abilities alongside his Eikonic Feat, which for the fire loadout is Phoenix Shift.

Ignition has Clive launch himself into an extended charge where he flies forward, dealing continuous damage to any enemy in front of him. Small enemies get pushed along and stunlocked. Ignition can be used grounded or airborne and the player can direct Clive left or right with Right stick during it.

If Clive launches Ignition into a Lightning Rod, he will continually set it off.

Ignition activates the battle technique, Collateral Ignition, when damaging multiple enemies with a single use of Ignition.

After being used, the ability has a 22-second cooldown before being able to be used again. Upgrading/mastering the ability has no effect on its cooldown.

AP cost Effect
120 (Base) Able to equip Ignition to Clive's fire loadout.
525 (Upgrade) Widens area of effect and strengthens the ability.
1000 (Master) Able to equip Ignition to any loadout.

Use[]

Ignition is worth upgrading to make it more effective if the player is using it in their loadout. It is good for plowing into a group of small enemies, who get pushed along while unable to fight back. It is good for grouping small enemies into a cluster and following Ignition up with an attack that damages them all at once, such as Pile Drive. Large enemies that will not get stunlocked or pushed, however, are in danger of moving away from Clive's path. Ignition is good against staggered enemies, who are rendered immobile.

Ignition has synergy with Ramuh's Lightning Rod, which shocks all nearby enemies when struck; executing Ignition into a Lightning Rod continually sets it off. The player can also collect small enemies with Ignition and push them toward the Lightning Rod with it.

The player can place a Lightning Rod next to a staggered foe and then follow up with Ignition, aiming to strike both the enemy and the rod simultaneously. The player can add Ifrit's other Eikonic Ability, Will-o'-the-Wykes, into this mix, adding even more passive damage and hits.

A niche use would be to quickly escape a situation: certain late game notorious marks coat battlefield in projectiles, and Ignition lets Clive quickly charge away from them.
