Attacks one enemy with a goblin's strength.
Description
Goblin Punch is a Blue Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. It deals non-elemental damage that ignores row. If the target's level is the same as the caster's, it deals 8 times the normal damage, up to the 9999 damage cap. This means it can deal potentially immense damage to certain targets, all for no MP cost, making it an extremely potent ability in certain circumstances.
Obtained[]
The earliest Goblin Punch can be obtained is from Black Goblins. After the Blue Mage job is obtained, Black Goblins can be fought in the Wind Shrine, where the spell can be learned.
It can later be learned from Goblins, Gilgamesh (#268), Gobbledygook, Azulmagia, Sahagin, or Nix. Sahagin and Nix never use it unless controlled.
Mechanics[]
Goblin Punch deals non-elemental damage to one target, ignoring row positions and any weapon special effects. If the target's level is the same as the caster's, it deals 8 times the damage instead. This can mean Chicken Knife has no chance to cause fleeing.
There is a glitch where using the Power Drink item only enhances the power of Goblin Punch and no other attacks. There is also a glitch where if the player has the Excalipoor, or any staff/rod with a "false" attack power listed, equipped and uses Goblin Punch, the coding that causes the Excalipoor to do 1 damage will be ignored, allowing one to potentially deal massive damage. Both glitches are fixed in the now defunct mobile and Steam versions.
Use[]
Goblin Punch can be extremely useful in certain circumstances, and should not be underestimated. As the enemies or bosses in many dungeons will have a similar level to the player's party, it is entirely possible for enemies to have the same level as the player, meaning Goblin Punch can be extremely potent as it deals enormous damage for no MP and from any row. Goblin Punch can effectively replace basic attacks in this circumstance.
In other situations, Goblin Punch is not necessary. This is because its damage will be roughly the same as a normal attack if the target's level is different, and it will not be able to take advantage of any weapons the player has (although in the case of Excalipoor, this can be a good thing). However, its ability to ignore row position can be of advantage. If the player is unsure of the level of the enemy, Libra or Scan can be used to check.

Etymology[]
goblin is a small, mischievous creature found in many European folk tales and legends. The word "goblin" comes from the Norman French word Gobelinus, the name of a ghost that haunted the town of Évreux in the 12th century.
