Behind the scenes[]

At one point in development, the Horned Devil's physical attacks may have been intended to inflict Poison or Stone, as its attacks are flagged to check for resistance to the Poison element similar to enemies capable of inflicting those statuses, but no status is assigned to the Horned Devil. This quirk is present in all releases.

Etymology[]

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the cornugon (or horned devil) is a type of devil. Many traditional Final Fantasy enemies have their roots in Dungeons & Dragons.
