Baralai is a boss in Final Fantasy X-2. He is fought twice, once in the Bevelle Underground, and once in the Den of Woe. He has good accessories so steal both times he is fought.

If the player fails to learn Drill Shot during the first encounter, they will have to visit the Den of Woe for the second encounter with Baralai. The International and HD Remake versions allow him to be fought in the Fiend Arena, allowing more opportunities to learn Drill Shot if needed.

Battle[]

First encounter[]

Baralai hits hard and fast and uses a variety of attacks. Glint is a physical attack where he raises his staff and spins it around, hitting everyone in a five meter radius around him or one character if all characters are out of range. Looming Glacier targets one character, emptying their MP and inflicting Stop. He also casts Demi. After being hit at least ten times, Baralai will fire a Drill Shot from his handgun at the character who last hit him, which inflicts heavy damage equal to 75% of their maximum HP. Drill Shot can be learned by Gun Mages as a Blue Bullet.

Strategy[]

To keep up, the party can be in Haste mode, by using a Chocobo Wing. During the battle, the party can have a White Mage constantly healing while the others hit with their strongest spells and attacks.

Second encounter[]

The pyreflies' illusion of Baralai is much stronger than when he was first fought in Bevelle. He can now drain MP and inflict Silence on the party. His Drill Shot will trigger earlier this time after being damaged eight or more times.

Strategy[]

The party can have an Alchemist heal while the two others use their strongest attacks.

Fiend Arena[]

Baralai also appears in the Youth League Tournament in the Fiend Arena. He is much stronger than his previous incarnations and sometimes appears alongside Nooj and Gippal. Additionally, his behavior has been altered - he now uses Drill Shot after his turn has passed seven times instead of using it after being hit multiple times. He can also raise his Strength and Magic stats multiple times, eventually culminating in him being able to use Ultima on the party.

Creature Creator[]

Upon completing the Den of Woe without skipping any cutscenes, Baralai can be recruited with a Trap pod SP in Bevelle from Chapter 3 onwards (Chapter 5 outside of New Game+). He retains many of his attacks from his boss battle, including Glint and Looming Glacier, the latter of which is useful in preventing Chac from using Heaven's Cataract in the Via Infinito.
