Helm made of diamond.
Description
The Diamond Helm is a mid game helmet in Final Fantasy IX for Steiner and Freya. It teaches Accuracy+, which allows the character to not miss with their Attack, and Insomniac, which immunizes against Sleep. The Diamond Helm gives a minor bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped.
Obtain[]
The Diamond Helm is bought for 3000 gil from Daguerreo before entering the Shimmering Island portal, and from the Mogshop in Ipsen's Castle.
Mechanics[]
The Diamond Helm provides 20 Magic Defense, mitigating damage from magic attacks. The helm gives a +1 bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Spirit is used to determine the HP a character is revived at, the length of expirable status effects, the frequency Regen and Poison tick, and the rate the character builds their Trance gauge and how long they can stay in Trance, among other things.
Use[]
The Diamond Helm is already eclipsed by the superior Genji Helmet from a Choco treasure by the time it can be bought. If the player is not doing the chocobo quest, then the Diamond Helm is the best helmet for world map exploration on the Hilda Garde III, Ipsen's Castle, and Terra wilderness until the party reaches Bran Bal.
Accuracy+ from the helm is useful for all characters who use their Attack command and Insomniac is generally good, though the party has likely already mastered it by the time the Diamond Helm is available.
The Diamond Helm's +1 bonus to Spirit is good, though they could get a better bonus from the earlier Barbut. Level grinding or min-maxing are unnecessary for a normal playthrough even when preparing for superboss encounters.
Beatrix can also equip the Diamond Helm though the player cannot see this in a normal playthrough.
