The Chromogger is a massive, more powerful and durable variant of the Smogger, which carries a wrecking ball in its left arm, which acts as a weapon and a shield. The sphere cannot be destroyed, and repels all physical attacks, causing them to bounce off.

For offense, Chromogger uses the ball for a normal attack and Skull Cracker, which deals heavy damage in a large area. It can spew red smoke onto the ground that persists for 30 seconds, which damages and inflicts Silence Silence. It can also surround itself with a blue electrically-charged smog that paralyzes characters on contact, leaving them open for attacks.

The enemy becomes pressured after losing a portion of its max HP to physical damage, and its stagger gauge can only be filled by hitting the wrecking ball with magic attacks.

Much like most mechanical creatures, the Chromogger is weak to Lightning Lightning.

Strategy[]

The Chromogger is best fought by slowly baiting it to the corners of the battlefield, since its smoke attacks leave magic-damage trails that persist long after the Chromogger has finished attacking that inflict debuffs. Its wrecking ball deals massive physical damage, but can be mitigated with the Barrier Barrier buff or by blocking; most of these attacks are telegraphed and can be avoided.

To stagger Chromogger, it must be pressured with well-timed physical attacks. After that, Aerith's fully-charged Tempest, Tifa's Chi Trap, or any elemental spell, will quickly fill out its meter. When attacking it with Cloud, it is best to fight in Punisher Mode, since Operator Mode has wider swings, which can hit the wrecking ball and cause his attacks to bounce off. Much like with the Smogger, the Chromogger is best attacked from behind.

Appropriate Lightning Materia Lightning Materia spells will destroy Chromogger the fastest, especially if coupled with Aerith's Arcane Ward ability. In Aerith's absence, at least one party member will benefit from coupling Elemental Materia Elemental Materia with lightning materia on their weapon. Combining Warding Materia Warding Materia and Binding Materia Binding Materia may protect against silence.

Hard Mode[]

On the hard difficulty, the Chromogger is more aggressive and will use its abilities more often, most notably Hazardous Smog, making difficult for the player to move around safely.

The general strategy apply, but the player should conserve MP. Pairing MP Absorption Materia MP Absorption Materia with lightning on Aerith is useful for it.
