The Chocobo Sisters are two elderly women in Final Fantasy: Unlimited, who care for chocobos. Chocobaba is the first of the two encountered by the protagonists, as seen in Magun: Man of the Black Wind, with Chocoimo waiting until Ciel: The Departure of Chocobo to make an appearance.

The pair have a great resemblance to each other, and share many personality traits. Both seem well versed in the lore of Wonderland, but despite their friendliness, they both appear reluctant to offer any conclusive information.

Chocobaba[]

Chocobaba.

Chocobaba appears in the second episode, riding an unnamed chocobo, with a second chocobo following closely. After a short conversation, she and the protagonists are attacked by Fungus, and thus she flees. As she does so, she drops a hair clip that allows the wearer to communicate with chocobos, which Yu picks up and puts in his hair.

Due to Yu's cries for help, the second chocobo returns to him, and joins the group, with Yu naming him Chobi. She is later seen with her sister in a flowery field, when Cid arrives as a frog, and gives him the hints he needs to break the curse.

She has the habit of ending her sentences with either "...so the rumors say" or "It never ends", much to Ai's annoyance.

Chocoimo[]

Chocoimo.

Chocoimo appears much later in the series, leading a pack of chocobos through a massive open plain. It is here that Chobi initially decides to leave the group, only to obtain the powers of the legendary Ciel, and return to them.

She is later seen with her sister in the field of flowers, where they discuss the frog curse and the maiden's kiss.

Like her sister, she has the habit of ending her sentences with either "...I don't know" or "something like that".

Etymology[]

The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".

食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
