The Blue M-phone (also known as the Blue M-Phone[1]) is a weapon for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII. It is available at Wutai, and has stats on-par with weapons available for other characters from there. It has five Materia slots, four of which are linked.

As with other Cait Sith weapons, the Blue M-phone itself does not strike an enemy, but commands his Mog, meaning Cait Sith's damage is still Hit rather than Shout type. However, its Attack stat still counts towards damage dealt.

Obtained[]

The Blue M-phone is purchased for 5,500 gil from Wutai Village. As Wutai is an optional location, its use to the player depends on how soon the player travels there. If they travel to Wutai before reaching Icicle Inn, Blue M-phone is Cait Sith's strongest weapon until that point. The Wutai shops do not open until after the player completes the Wutai sidequest.

Mechanics[]

As the Blue M-phone has a base Attack stat bonus of 41, the base damage for physical attacks when the Blue M-phone equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Cait Sith's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Blue M-phone also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 100%, and grants a +9 bonus to Cait Sith's Magic stat.

The Blue M-phone is available for Cait Sith after reaching Wutai Village, and its usefulness depends on how soon the player visits there and completes the sidequest to make the shops available. Blue M-phone is Cait Sith's strongest well-rounded weapon before Icicle Inn, though players may prefer the Silver M-phone's greater number of Materia slots.

The Blue M-phone has five Materia slots, four of which are linked. As Cait Sith has one of the best Magic stats in the game, and his physical damage his fairly unreliable, these slots should be used for Magic and Summon Materia, and should be paired with Support Materia. The unlinked slot should be used for Independent Materia, or for Enemy Skill Materia (which can also benefit from Cait Sith's Magic boost).

The Blue M-phone is a well-rounded weapon for Cait Sith. However, as he is best focused towards spellcasting, the Silver M-phone, which has eight unlinked Materia slots, may be better for him in spite of its worse Attack stat. Silver M-phone's only drawback is that its slots are unlinked, though the trade off may be worth it as equipping more Magic Materia allows Cait Sith to boost his magic even further, and armor can provide linked slots. At Icicle Inn, Cait Sith can obtain the Red M-phone, with better stats and six Materia slots (four linked).
