Battle[]
The Bloodhound is a sturdier, more powerful version of the Guard Dog. Similarly to the Wrath Hound, the Bloodhound is difficult to pin down due to resisting flinching and stagger, as well often evading all incoming physical attacks. Much like its weaker counterpart, the Bloodhound is an agile beast that can tackle its opponents, and perform a three-hit physical attack, with the first attack stronger than the succeeding ones. It can lunge at the player, who may be caught off guard if the enemy is out of camera shot.
Bloodhound can perform a powerful spinning tail whip ability called Whirlwhip, which can knock opponents away. It can also attack with the Throat Clamp, where it lunges at its opponent, knocking them down and locking with their jaws, binding the target on the ground and preventing them from moving. Lastly, it can attack with Siphon Strike, a quick whip lash with its head tentacle that can knock down opponents.
All of the Bloodhound's attacks drains its target's HP.
Hard Mode[]
On the hard difficulty, the Bloodhound is overall more aggressive and is much harder to flinch.
Strategy[]
Much like the vast majority of biological-type enemies, the Bloodhound is weak against Ice. Since it is a sturdy opponent hard to flinch and moves around a lot, ice magic needs to be timed properly, since it can easily miss. The player can also link an Elemental Materia with Ice Materia to a character's weapon to deal more damage each hit.
As the Bloodhound can evade all incoming attacks unless when using abilities, it is recommended to outflank it to get out of the reach of its attacks. Blocking is recommended against its consecutive attacks. Cloud can easily retaliate with while in Punisher Mode.
Should one of the party members get bind by Throat Clamp, it is recommended to either mash buttons to escape faster, or switch characters and attack the Bloodhound with powerful attacks. Throat Clamp cannot be countered by Punisher Mode.
One of the most effective ways to deal with the Bloodhound is to wait until it uses Throat Clamp; dodging it while issuing another character to use ice magic can quickly catch it off guard, leaving the Bloodhound pressured, meaning it'll be susceptible to staggering.
