Nicholas Wolterstorff
Nicholas Wolterstorff (s. 21. tammikuuta 1932 Bigelow, Minnesota) on yhdysvaltalainen filosofi, Yalen yliopiston Noah Porter -oppituolin filosofisen teologian emeritusprofessori ja Berkeley Collegen jäsen. Wolterstorff on kirjoittanut useista filosofisista ja teologisista aiheista, ja käsitellyt erityisesti metafysiikkaa, estetiikkaa, poliittista filosofiaa, tietoteoriaa ja uskonnonfilosofiaa.
Wolterstorff oli mukana perustamassa Society of Christian Philosophers -yhdistystä ja Faith and Philosophy -julkaisua yhdessä Alvin Plantingan, William Alstonin ja Richard Mouw’n kanssa.

muokkaaTeoksessaan Justice: Rights and Wrongs (Princeton University Press, 2008) Wolterstorff puolustaa väitettä, jonka mukaan ehdottomia ihmisoikeuksia ei pystytä teoreettisesti oikeuttamaan ilman teististä käsitystä, jonka mukaan ihminen on luotu Jumalan kuvaksi.[1] Wolterstorffin mukaan länsimaisille sekulaareille intellektuelleille ominainen pyrkimys sulkea ihmisoikeuksien uskonnollinen perustelu keskustelun ulkopuolelle ei tee oikeutta oikeutuksen luonteelle.[2]
