Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle is a platform game released on the Game Boy Advance, Macintosh, Apple Ambrosia, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo GameCube in 2003. This game is a remake of the 1982 game of the same name. The Apple Ambrosia, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube versions were developed by Tantalus Interactive and published by Acclaim Entertainment while the Game Boy Advance version was developed by Altron and published by THQ.
The Windows and OS X versions are a 2D point-and-click adventure game developed and published by Humongous Entertainment.

In 1999, Humongous Entertainment announced that they were making a 2D point-and-click adventure game for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS based on The Smurfs. The game was set to be released sometime in October 2003.
In 2001, Humongous Entertainment announced that their 2D point-and-click Smurfs game would be called "Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle".
On May 23, 2002, Tantalus Interactive and Acclaim Entertainment a remake of Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, the soon-to-be-released Ambrosia (which was announced by Apple back in 2001 and set for an October 2002 release), and Game Boy Advance. The remake of Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle was set to be released in October 2003.
In October 2002, the PlayStation 2 version of the remake was cancelled in favor for a PlayStation version of the remake.
On January 12, 2003, Humongous Entertainment announced that their Smurfs game would be delayed to November 10, 2003.
On March 2, 2003, Acclaim (and THQ for the GBA version) announced that the upcoming Smurfs game would be delayed until November 10, 2003.
In June 2003, Humongous Entertainment and Acclaim finished making the Game Boy Advance, Macintosh, Apple Ambrosia, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo GameCube versions of the game.
