Reten is Unten's counterpart from an alternate universe. Unlike the other Alternate Untens Reten actually played some part in the destruction of his Zeon and later his entire universe.

Appearance[]

Reten is a tall and gangly beorn with thicker and fluffier fur, kept pristine by a large amount of furcare products. He has white sclera and black star-shaped pupils, unusual for a beorn and sharpened teeth. He wears a metallic necklace that contains his Cyrium armor and allows him to manipulate Power Harmonious. Over this he wears his signature orange coat with a black fur collar and white edges. His left ear is pierced, usually having his Galvan Earring attached.

Personality[]

On the surface Reten is a confident and charismatic killer who always seems to be a step ahead of his opponents. While most would presume that Reten was simply a cocky smartass who got by on dumb luck and instinct he is in fact quite intelligent, though he is just as good at masking this so that others would underestimate him. He's a bit of a megalomaniac, constantly seeking sources of power in order to protect himself and the few people he cares about. There are few means he would not go through with in order to reach this end. In comparision to his counterpart Unten Bluzen Reten has no form of no-kill policy, having no qualms with dispatching with his foes. That is not to say that Reten would always kill those he fights; in various cases he has left his opponents alive for various reasons. What he does share with Unten is a tendency to fall into prophetic dreams, though less often and with less clarity than Unten's. Reten takes in the information of these dreams though the hints they provide seem to not be as immediately relevant and much more surreal, hence why he doesn't tend to mention them. Reten struggles with what most would consider a peaceful life. In times where there is no immediate danger Reten tends to work to fight future threats he isn't even sure exists yet due to a deep fear of any actual peacetime causing him to "go soft" or otherwise negatively impact him.

He finds it hard to truly connect with people but all too easy to pretend to bond with them to further his own goals. However, he is almost obsessed with keeping those he truly considers friends safe due to how few-and-far they are.

Abilities[]

Reten is a quick, vicious and dastardly fighter who is adept in both melee combat with his claws and ranged combat in his seemingly endless array of firearms. He is fully willing to use dirty tricks, mind games and low blows to get the edge in a fight.

Transformations[]

Armoured Reten[]

Reten's body is embedded with Power Harmonious, which manifests as a metal band around his neck. From this necklace Cyrium manifests in shards to coat Reten in armour of varying degrees. Reten can utilize this Armoured form to gain more defensive and offensive options at the cost of speed due to the weight of the armour.

25% Armour[]

Reten doesn't use his 25% form regularly, often using it when he needs a quick speed boost while using 50% or to quickly add some extra power to his claws. Reten's speed isn't too effected by this form but he's still not at max speed.

50% Armour[]

This is the type of Armoured form Reten usually uses, with 50% of his body mass covered by armour. He's noticably slower at this speed but is covered in alot of armour, including pauldrons that when Reten focuses will eminate slight repulsion fields that will push away attacks or projectiles of a low enough magnitude.

50% Armour: Blade Mode[]

An alternate form of 50% Armour that uses extra Cyrium mass to create long blades that cover his hands. The blades are deadly but come at the cost of motor functions and that Reten cannot utilize the blades in 100% form.

50% Armour: Blade Mode EX[]

A sorta joke form in which Reten utilizes EX Energy, but only in this specific sidegrade of a variant of a form. Reten's pretty fast in this form, even faster than his regular form and has all the other benefits EX Energy  provides a person, presuming he'd actually use this hyper-specific form...

100% Armour[]

The maximized pinnacle of the Armoured form, 100% Armoured Reten not only gets full armour including cyrium nanites woven into his coat and a dragon-shaped helm but he also gains the Harm Boosters, a set of hovering cyrium jets. The boosters connect to Reten telephatically and allow him to increase his speed to 25% Armour levels or even fly. The boosters use up Cyrium meaning this form cannot be sustained unless Reten wants to move at a snails pace.

Ghidoran Reten[]

The form Reten enters upon eating a Glistening Blump, Reten's body is adorned in golden scales, his claws hardening and becoming charged with kinetic energy. Beings with weaker will tend to bend towards his, either standing down if they were threatening him previously or assisting him in combat. He is also able to convert kinetic energy into gravity wells of equal force, allowing him to pull his enemies in unpredictable directions or add extra power to his attacks.

Hyper Reten[]

The form Reten enters upon using a Hyper Orb, his coat becomes more ornate and armored, with guns transforming into oversized killing machines at his touch. He usually keeps the Orb itself slotted into his Cyrium plate.

Hyper Ghidoran Reten[]

An overkill combined form Reten enters during Beorns from County Hell, it takes the best of both forms while ramping up Reten's bloodthirst, giving him a berserker-esque mind state.

History[]

Pre-Phase 2[]

Reten was born in a rich family on Zeon, his father being an arms manufacturer. Despite this Reten spent most of his time in the slums below his neighbourhood, scavenging for scrap and picking fights. At 13 his Father inducted him into a Black Ops Child Soldier Program, done by the Zeonian Government to try and combat the Catonean Emperor Sudanima who was locked in war with them. He was prophecized to defeat Sudanima, although the actions of another Beorn meant he was merely an assistant to this prophetic battle, which was lost by The Ox and caused the eventual destruction of his planet. Sometime between the loss and Zeon's destruction Reten had formed a gang called The Lamenters and gone off-planet. The gang became a mercenary clique and a successful one at that. After The Bohemian, a member of the group, sold out the Lamenters to Sudanima causing them to scatter and Reten to re-build the Lamenters with new and old members.

Phase 2 - Lamenter Til I Die[]

With this 2nd formation of the group Reten began taking jobs again, his final one being the infamous Huxxabu siege that destroyed the Neotendoverse on a multiversal scale this became known among some groups as "The day the UPF lost" due to them having to destroy the universe instead of capturing it. Reten's actions in this event  boosted him up to the No. 1 most wanted spot on the UPF's list. After its destruction Reten, a Huxxabu native named Ruby and the UPF drone Meta-Form Prime were all sent hurtling into the New Fantendoverse, specifically into their Earth's Nevada Desert. A U-Hive pod soon landed in the area, the intense Keterwave radiation causing the artificial Beorn inside to gain Reten 's memories, becoming Spree. The 3 soon defeated Meta-Form and began hopping around Nevada.

Phase 3 - Dead World, World Tournament[]

Reten's allies, Spree and Ruby, end up captured by the private military group the Lanch Kraken Coalition and Reten breaks in rather loudly to break them out. After a jailbreak, a fight and plenty of property damage Reten ends up catured as well until the PMC's leader Latt Ai hires them for a job. They, along with a large amount of expendable LKC soldiers, are sent to the hovering Godfortress currently floating above Nevada to fight The Tragedy's forces. Shit happens, he fights himself from an alternate timeline and walks out with ID, money and a few new friends. He, Spree and Plum all wind up in the World Tournament. Reten is the first eliminated, much to his annoyance. The Tournament was not entirely a failure for him however, as he ends up recruiting Bang Crimson to some sort of team of an unrevealed nature...

Relationships[]

Primeval Thorn[]

Thorn and Reten are a textbook example of blood siblings. The two have fought innumerable battles together and have become fast friends. Reten, believing Thorn would have ended up somewhere in the Fantendoverse, has poured a lot of money into finding her and Mad Dog.

Mad Dog[]

The two have a bitter rivalry and while they dont hate eachoother enough to kill, they certaintly hate eachother enough to compete recklessly and argue constantly. Primeval Thorn thinks that the pair need to "either fight or fuck" which Reten finds to be a fucking stupid analysis of their bitter hatred for eachother.

Spree[]

Reten sees Spree as a brother of sorts and the two often reminisce over Reten's past. He's kinda protective of Spree aswell.

Plum[]

Reten doesn't think much of Plum, not being as hung-up on his species' extinction as she is. However, he respects her fighting ability and enjoys working with eachother.

Domino[]

Reten has a respect for Domino as a fellow bounty hunter/thrillseeker but thinks he's overly cocky and doesn't use his ability to its full potential.

Kaiden[]

Reten respects Kaiden's fighting ability but finds his social awareness and lack of knowledge of the outside world amusing at best and annoying at worse.

Fera[]

Reten gets on extremely well with Fera, bonding with her over military service and their similar outlooks on friendship and life. That being said the Terran doesn't approve of his more morally ambiguous dealings and methods.

Meta-Form[]

Reten finds Meta-Form to be a bit of a dork and is annoyed by him while Meta-Form finds Reten's methods reprehensible. Despite these differences the two will work together if necessary and in fact work well together.

Gregor[]

Reten enjoys Gregor's company due to his laidback demeanour, though their first meeting ended with Gregor nearly getting shot after popping out of the beorn's shadow.

Mynis[]

Reten and Mynis are brothers-in-arms, bonding over their shared prodigy status and their flair for the dramatic. Reten often uses Mynis's ineptitude to his advantage, unbeknownst to the brown beorn.

Silver Zin[]

During his tenure on Satellite 15 Reten grew to consider Silver a close friend, as the Zaxinian had been both a tour guide and ally while he was there. The two make a pretty formidable combo in combat thanks to their pooled versatility.

Zonas B. Trayd (Satellite 15)[]

Reten and Zonas had a rough start due to their first interaction being him trying to arrest Silver but upon their second meeting this was patched over, with Reten growing to like the demon. He thinks he's kinda cute.

A counterpart of Unten from another universe, Reten's a pristine-looking Beorn wearing a hammerspace-holding orange coat, having this gangster-like vibe to his appearance. Having grown up in the slums scavenging for scrap and picking fights in his world's take on Zeon prior to its demise, he's now a quick and vicious and dastardly fighter that's adept in melee and ranged combat, and possesses many firearms he's very skilled at using. Reten's this charismatic and confident mercenary that's always trying to be a step ahead of his enemies' game, having no qualms with dispatching enemies and plotting ahead of time to fight enemies that he's not even sure if they exist yet at the moment. He's something of a megalomaniac and cocky smartass with an ego that has yet to be placed in check, always keeping on the move and always displaying his strengths in the open. Though this isn't to say he's a villain- he's just a wild gunman with a chaotic neutral personality that tries to keep his real friends safe and bond with anyone else necessary if it means advancing his goals, all the while having a lot of fun at everyone's expense. Reten is a strange character and that's no exaggeration; he's got some of the wildest weaponry of anyone aboard the satellite, including a gun whose sonic waves can crush bones (The Gun With No Name) and a weapon that blasts off miniature suns (Lulu). He doesn't need guns though to win, as he's also got plenty of wrestling talents and skill with hand-to-hand combat as well. What's really strange about him though is how he falls into prophetic dreams, with little clarity whenever they do rarely appear- he takes these dreams as hints of things that will happen in the future, though they might be a little surreal and not relevant at the moment, thus he's not likely to mention them. Reten always tries to think of what will happen in advance though, in fear that actual peacetime will make him go soft or impact him in some other negative way that he doesn't wish upon himself. You might think that Reten's just a cocky smartass that gets by with dumb luck and instinct, but he's actually very intelligent and just masks it so you appear to be the dumb one. When dropped on Satellite 15 by Zellen, he winded up getting introduced to Silver Zin, posing as something of a partner for him during the DLC episode and getting more involved with Mania Metallurgy as his girlfriend. He's currently helping Silver with his cause of stopping Mallory's dastardly rule. Gameplay Details

Analysis Reten is a semi-heavyweight character that's classified as a powerhouse, with several ranged options and many hard-hitting attacks in exchange for poor defense and mediocre speed. Reten is among COLD❄BLOOD's most versatile fighters, having five different guns with different utilities he can use in his Neutral Special and being capable of damaging his enemies practically all the time thanks to his COLD❄BLOOD-exclusive Gun Rings and his rapid usage of bullets, magazines, clips, etc. He is also a fighter with style, making every match feel like something truly state-of-the-art with just how brave and strong he acts against his enemies, growing stronger the better he plays. Reten is especially powered if he's beaten down, with his Cyrium increasing the range of his neutral attacks and his Galvan Earring making his body intangible for longer and longer whenever he parries. He also has the game's best ZONAL FEVER by a longshot, gaining access to so many powerful attacks and becoming practically invincible during that time. Reten does have his flaws, however. As a pure powerhouse, Reten's defenses are absolutely worth scoffing at, as he can be easily shot down by anyone in the game with strong enough power output. He is also in a lower speed tier than many of COLD❄BLOOD's cast members, requiring him to abuse his strong parrying ability but never to the point where it becomes predictable. What might hurt him most is the fact that he cannot access his Hyper Moves until he's maxed out his HyperDrive meter, where he can infinitely use them until his ZONAL FEVER time runs out, but until then leaves him without ultra-powerful options he can use to smack his enemies down. Another thing that really hurts is that, unless he's taken excessive damage, he does not have a lot of range he can use to his advantage in his neutral moveset. Lastly, he cannot swap between guns in his Hyper Mode. Reten is an obscenely strong character with many strengths in his versatility, but to reach that level of versatility, one must put a painstaking amount of effort into analyzing his entire moveset and quickly plot a way towards reaching that versatility without rendering Reten too weak to stand up against any potential game-ender. Stamina 5/10 Heavyweight Class Appetite 7/10 Offense 5/10 Defense 2/10 Mobility 7/10 Moveset Common Attacks Reten's neutral movepool makes use of his Cyrium-empowered claws, which improve in range and power the more beaten-up he becomes over the course of a match. Many of his attacks have little lag and chain well together, meaning once you get Reten started, he can become very difficult to stop. Like with Bayonetta in the Super Smash Bros. series, holding down on the attack button even after an attack has already been done will cause him to blast bullets from "gun rings" on his fingers, which don't make enemies flinch but deal extra damage. In his Hyper Form, Reten has extra range and his gun rings deal more damage. Reten's heavy tilts have him do heavy swings with his claws, which can aggressively knock people over and potentially leave them paralyzed. His best-damaging attack is his up aerial, which is a massive, hard punch to the gut which is tough to land but worth the effort. Special Moves Neutral Special: Scream Aim Fire Swap between guns to use the different specials. Remember that, with the exception of Sol, Reten must automatically reload his weapons before he can use them again. Reten also cannot swap guns in Hyper Mode, for balancing's sake, so the player should wisely choose their weapon while he's in his usual form. "The Gun With No Name" is a silver revolver with a shockwave emitter attached under the barrel that blasts sonic waves strong enough to break bones at point-blank range each time a bullet is fired. The bullets can be spammed and deal minuscule damage each, but the short-range sonic waves push back enemies far and deal incredible damage. "Lulu" is a futuristic purple-and-black pistol that fires small orbs of superheated energy, which almost resemble microscopic suns. They go supernova on impact and burn through most forms of solid matter, including organic matter. Can't be spammed and doesn't travel too fast, but deals more damage than The Gun With No Name. "Sol" is a homemade machine pistol that looks somewhat patched up but freshly made at the same time. Using hammerspace technology, it can load oversized stick magazines filled with armor-piercing bullets. These bullets travel at high speeds and are infinitely spammable but cannot make enemies flinch nor do they deal much damage. "Heartbreaker" is a hand cannon that blasts off large rounds, using hammerspace like Sol to load clips bigger than the gun itself. Though it requires more time to fire than Sol does and the blasts don't travel as fast, the clips deal greater damage than Sol's and there's a 33% chance that a clip will wind up being a critical hit! "Kurz" is a last resort type of gun that rarely has a purpose for Reten in battle, chambering just one of his golden teeth. In COLD❄BLOOD, Reten can use Kurz as a finisher, as it will always wind up dealing a critical amount of damage to any enemy. However, he may only use it once, and it's only guaranteed to KO the enemy if their Stamina is below 10%. Forwards Special: Into the Ropes Reten will bump into his enemy with his elbow, forcing them into briefly-lasting wrestling ring ropes and having them come back in his direction. If the player times a second special button press just right, he will grab his enemy and German suplex them, having them bounce behind him. If he does it early, he'll tackle them into the floor instead, shooting them right in the head with his equipped weapon. These both deal quite a bit of damage, but the German suplex is quicker and the enemy can worm free in the tackle attack. If Reten is too late, he'll get his enemy thrown into him, causing both to take damage whether Reten likes it or not. Recovery Special: Dirty Dive Reten will leap up, smirking before doing a diagonal dive towards the ground with his Cyrium claws stretched out to their maximum length. The dive happens fast and can easily lead to self-destructs if he isn't careful in places with unstable footing. If he lands on an enemy, he'll grab them and drag them across the floor, potentially towards their own death, backflipping off of them when ready to get off at the player's command. Crouch Special: Weapons Exchange Reten will be able to swap between his weapons from here, capable of selecting between The Gun With No Name, Lulu, Sol, Heartbreaker, and Kurz, which all serve very different purposes in battle and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Reten cannot swap between his weapons in Hyper Mode for balancing's sake, so the player needs to select which weapon they want to use from here for his Hyper Mode transformation. Hyper Moves Neutral Hyper: True Bullet Hell Swap between guns in non-Hyper Mode to use the different specials. Remember that, with the exception of Heatdeath, Reten must automatically reload his weapons before he can use them again. "Django" is a huge revolver that's considered an upgrade to The Gun With No Name, capable of blasting off bullets that send seismic activity wherever they hit, shaking the ground, walls, and ceilings so much that anyone caught on a vulnerable surface will take lots of damage and be knocked over, allowing Hyper Reten to go in at them with ease. Only one bullet may be fired per few seconds. "Ultra Beatdown" is Lulu's upgrade, becoming a death ray that rips through organic material with absolute ease. The size of these rays is much greater than Lulu's microscopic guns and take on the look of wavy green lines, which will deal massive damage to anyone that gets caught in their way. It's tricky to aim, though, so Hyper Reten has to be precise with his aim! "Heatdeath" is an enhanced version of Sol, which is now a large rocket launcher that locks onto its enemies before releasing a barrage of explosives that home in on them. Hyper Reten can keep this onslaught going infinitely, but he must keep his eyes on his targets to continue accurately aiming his explosives towards them, and the explosives themselves don't move too fast. "Eagleheart" is a highly-accurate gattling gun that always has a 100% chance of resulting in a critical hit, making it very dangerous when Hyper Reten pulls it out. Eagleheart's clips travel much faster than Heartbreaker's and it doesn't take nearly as long to aim, meaning enemies should absolutely stay away from him! However, it can only be aimed horizontally, like with Heartbreaker. "One-Shot" will absorb all of Reten's Hyper energy into his briefly upgraded Kurtz, blasting his energy-infused tooth forwards. If it makes contact with an enemy, no matter how strong or healthy they look, it will knock them out instantly. This only works if Reten hasn't used Kurtz yet, if it was selected as his main gun prior to his transformation, and if the player hits the special button mid-transformation so he can channel all that energy into this one gun. Forwards Hyper: Psycho Driver Deluxe Hyper Reten will forcibly grab his enemy by the shoulders, raising them up before slamming their head against the floor, spinning them around as a briefly-lasting wrestling ring rope set appears ahead of him. If Hyper Reten lets go at the right time, he will swing his enemy into the ropes, forcing them to rebound back towards him. If he can land this big punch to their chin, they will be flipped over and knocked to the floor. This attack can easily deal a lot of damage to any enemy, even heavyweights, but it requires some precise timing and for Hyper Reten to be alone in the arena. Hyper Reten's attacks in Psycho Driver Deluxe are stronger if his enemy is closer to being beaten. Recovery Hyper: Filthy Flight Hyper Reten will do a diagonal ascent into the air, briefly assuming the ability to fly, even though this will churn away at his Hyper Mode power quicker. He will fly about with ease, capable of picking up anyone he touches and he can choose whether he wants to slam them against the wall or drag them across the floor. If attacked while flying, he will lose his Hyper powers faster, so he needs to be kept protected. Crouch Hyper: Cyrium Beam Hyper Reten will manifest a lot of Cyrium from his necklace to create an enormous Cyrium Beam, which is cyan-colored and covers a massive amount of distance. It must be charged up beforehand, but upon release, it can deal an obscene amount of damage to anyone it touches. If Hyper Reten takes any hits, however, he will be forced to fully reset his charge. If the other players let him fire, it can be very ugly, as it will drain so much Stamina from up to three fighters! Can be his singlehandedly best killing move if they let him use it. ZONAL FEVER: Hyper Mode Reten transforms into his Hyper Form, receiving enhancements to his signature coat, his personal height, and his many weapons. He becomes much cheesier and even cockier, and rightfully so, as he packs a huge punch in his Hyper Form. Note that Reten's Hyper Specials are completely inaccessible unless he switches into his Hyper Form, so when he finally reaches the peak on his HyperDrive meter, he will gain access to a plethora of moves for up to 15 seconds. For those going against Reten in a fight- don't let him reach full power! Animations Entry Animation: Reten rides in on a motorcycle, cocking his gun and letting out a little devilish chuckle as his eyes gaze upon his competition. Reten will roll his eyes unless his enemies include Silver, Valerie, Scotch, Syinara, Pierce, or Devina- instead, he will flash his pupils gold in curiosity. Idle #1: Reten positions his gun upright, leaning on it and observing his enemies. He will glance down here and there at an picture he took of Mania Metallurgy before lifting his gun back into his arms. Idle #2: Reten swings his equipped gun around before nearly dropping it, causing him to very briefly panic. He then loads it up, making a "come and get some" gesture with his right claw. Taunt #1: Reten shoots his guns up high, chuckling as he shows off his marksmanship. Taunt #2: Reten raises the middle finger, a filthy grin stretching across his face. Taunt #3: Reten falls back into a recliner, watching WWE on a television. He'll kick away the television as a projectile whenever the player decides to cancel this taunt. He's watching Kenny Omega particularly if left undisturbed. Victory #1: Reten twirls his gun about and cracks a wide grin, proceeding to fire three shots into the camera, causing it to drop to the floor as Reten's shown driving off on a motorcycle through cracked lens. He then cracks a grin, looking away from the explosions. Victory #3: Exclusive to matches involving Silver. • His themes, according to his creator, are DottiR's Born To Kill and Biting Elbow's Bad Motherfucker.
• As an alternate universe version of Unten, he serves as one of the original thematic antithesises. This is shown in several ways:
  • His color scheme is an inversion of Untens with his eyes being the reversed colors and his fur being orange, a complimentary color of blue.
  • While Unten traditionally relies on his moderate power and diplomatic skills in conflict Reten seems to go in the reverse direction, forgoeing diplomacy for a strong and varied powerset and a ruthless demeanor.
  • Reten discarded his last name while Unten gave himself one.
  • Reten's core team compliments that of Untens. He frequently allies with a deranged doctor, another Beorn whom he shares both a rivallry and a past with and a metal-bender.
  • Reten's life in his old universe had him killing Gods as a duty while Unten spent his original existence and much of his current one serving under Gods.
• Reten's pistols are references to SCUD: The Disposable Assassin. The pistols share similarities with SCUD's own pistols and are named after 2 SCUD models in the comic series.
• Reten is not Lanky Kong.
• He isn't Jar Jar Binks either dickface!
• Reten's motorbike is called the Maid-01 and is a heavily modified Harly-Davidson WLA. The bike was a piece of smuggler history in the Neotendoverse, being owned and added to by many high profile pilots and mercenaries. Reten's addition to the vehicle is a boombox on the side.
• Reten is among the richer characters in the New Fantendoverse thanks to a combination of him selling objects that existed only in his universe, (such as an extra 5 seasons of Firefly, a collection of Batman comics were Jason Todd wasn't killed and triangular kit-kats.) mercenary dealings and working for the Launch Kraken Coalition.
• Reten is hearing impaired and often wears special-made hearing aids. They are shaped to fit his beorn ears as well as reinforced to make them less likely to be destroyed during battle.
• Despite his vulnerability to Aura Reten can still theoretically challenge it, at great harm to himself. His aura color can be described as being the same as that of puddles of gasoline.
• Reten's new pistols, Lulu and The Gun With No Name were obtained during his visit to Satellite 15 and are named after a Metallica album and Clint Eastwood's character 'The Man with No Name' from the Dollars trilogy respectively.
• Every appearance of Reten is canon to his character unless it would be impossible to fit it in. This is because it's funny and silly.
• Reten possesses some of the greatest artifacts of Sigma Prime including Snaily Joe's shell, the GS Pokeball, the Flat Eric puppet and a token of unknown importance, signified by a mysterious symbol etched into it.
• How Reten's aura vulnerability would play into a hypothetical standing ripple of his is unknown, but it probably wouldn't be good.
• Reten's given full name, Reten Ozymandias Blumenkanye, comes from both the DC Watchmen character Ozymandias (who's name comes from the greek name for Ramses II) and a mashup of Kanye West and Kill La KIll music named Blumenkanye. Yeah.
• Reten's glistening blump transformation is a stark contrast to most. While Unten and Mynis's Blump forms are named after greek mythological figures (Midas and Narcisscus, respectively) Reten's is named after the Kaiju King Ghidorah. His powers are also similar to Ghidraoh's, such as being able to bend the will of lesser beings and manipulating gravity.
